Creed, I know you said you don’t do much stainless TIG welding, but have you ever seen or used one of those localized wand passivation machines? We have on to remove the surface carbon and heat tint since most of our stainless products are cosmetic or need additional corrosion resistance.
They’re pretty cool and sure make for a nice finished product!

My oldest brother was 18 and my youngest sister was 10 when I was born. I just kind of skipped over the 80's and went straight from 60's and 70's to 90's music. I don't mind the 80's but it's definitely not my favorite era.

We mostly have our stainless product sent out for electropolishing, but when it’s only needed to remove the heat tint from the weld area, we use this. It’s pretty cool. You can honestly make your own rudimentary machine (I have for home use:anonymous:) with a battery charger, a piece of cotton cloth wrapped around a chunk of copper dipped in “ospho” rust remover (osphoric acid) on the positive cable, and the negative cable grounded to the part.
    Gets the job done!

I told my boss these looked good. He said they remade them. Uh oh. The holes are offset a little because of the brass blocks hole locations. He told the people who welded them. I cut and drilled everything except the handles, the base we used 1” angle.

The wrong guy welded them, he didn’t know and the holes were in the wrong place. He cut them apart, rewelded them and the brass wouldn’t fit.

They burnt everything out and bent it from scratch. That cost them a little bit.

Yeah, my above home brew method of this only works on stainless. I’m not sure what voodoo goes into the rest of those processes!
