Nice compressor. It looks like a heavy duty industrial grade for sure. We change or used to change out compressors out at work 5 year PM a couple of guys had purchased them used cheap and resold them. We finally convinced them to go 10 years and even then they're still hardly used. I forget what HP motor runs them but they're large.
Your old reliable looks like it might have the pump bypass until it sees oil pressure, good engineering.

When I worked in a fab shop used a Dremel with one of the diamond cutoff wheels and an aluminum collar with holes drilled at different angles. It worked decent, one of those would've been nice, but the boss man was a cheap ass

We have 2 tungsten grinders called Piranha. One in the weld shop and one on machine shop. I put signs up on my pedestal grinders and drill bit sharpeners but.....welders sometimes :facepalm:I've gotten our regular welder dudes broke of the habit but every outage it seems. Chuck it in a drill and use the belt/disc sander
I will have to tell them about that Milwaukee tool though!

She is a splash lube job, doesn't have an oil pump, 2 or 3 HP -- not fast but good for 175 psi.
The bell end houses the centrifugal unloader. On start up there is no load on the head until the centrifugal unit comes up to speed closing the unloader valve.

There is a check valve going into the air receiver, when she shuts down the unloader opens and vents the pressure between the head and the check valve -- you hear PSSSssssoooooo. (At least that's how I think it is spelled ;))

Wayne was big in service station equipment back in the day, I'm sure this one started life there. I unintentionally bought her at auction. I'm a compressor geek and had checked her out best you can at auctions. Heavy compressors usually pull good and sometimes silly money.

So nobody is bidding on this compressor, stalled at $190. I haven't bid, not holding my card, nothing (remember, I wasn't going to buy it). The auctioneer who is solidly 70+ looks right at me and says "Sir, I know you want to make a bid -- I can wait..." $235 brought her home, 2 new bearings for the motor, replace the crispy wiring and she becomes old reliable.

I’m not 100% sure Critter, I’d say some kind of polishing compound would do the trick though
