It's not I'm me to do that, even with the snubbing I received. Especially after 9 years now.

Yea I just had to work on a car someone else fucked up for warranty time while the the other guy did brakes and recalls. He made good money today.
    I made squat.

same thing with my boy. Was fascinated with watching me fix impossible stuff.
I told him if he became a tech I’d disown him. And I meant it.
So he does important stuff now and teaches and makes twice as much as I do and
    Doesn’t get dirty anymore.

That’s what sucks about flat rate. The idiot gets the good money jobs while the guy who knows what’s going on is pulling a transmission for 6 tenths

It’s one of the few jobs that the more you know the harder your job is and the less you make.
I prided myself in being able to fix the hardest things on a vehicle with respect for the customer’s
Wallet. Other dealers would bring their cars to me. That unfortunately has changed so far from the vision I had when I started. I’m a dinosaur now. If I had known back then what it was going to become, I would have done things so much different.

I just had a younger guy order a head lamp assembly for a 2021 highlander cuz the low beam was not working. LED which is not a serviceable part. 1500.00!! He apparently made himself busy today so I brought it in... long story short. I tested for power. None. Checked fuse.... missing. Installed fuse.... fixed.

I approached him about this and he says “I just assumed it needed a new assembly” as he walked away not giving 2 shits about the shit he makes a pay check on. Been there about 6 years and gets all out of wack when he gets more than an LOF or a brake repair. LOL should of seen him do the first rear brake job on a auto parking brake car!!! Needed 2 calipers. Sorry but I don’t give my time to people like this. Management can handle this shit.

The Ridgeline must be like Dr. Who's Tardis; bigger on the inside than on the outside, otherwise there is no way on God's green earth you could get that much stupid in one vehicle!!!!

I get the stagnation part, I feel it at my job then it hurts to see others no more qualified than myself get great promotions. The bottom line there's no one else ther that knows magic of machine shop.
I understand garage/repair shop overhead but it seems insane the hourly shop rate compared to what a tech probably makes.

Took on a big side project. Something I don’t try to do much of anymore. A friend of mine I grew up with, he stood in my wedding, he bought this and ask me to fix it. I got to go get it and bring it to the house. He’s also a machinist but not much of a welder. Both sides are bent.

British TV trivia for the day: Dr Who
The scripted reason for the TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) to be stuck in the shape of a "Police Box" (phone booth) was a fault in the "chameleon circuit" which would normally allow it to change to blend in with the surroundings -- the real reason was that the BBC didn't have the budget to have a new prop built for every episode.

Didn't think too many people here would know who Dr Who is -- or was...
