Speaking of fixing old stuff, I've got this somewhat old drill press I need some parts for. I've searched around, but can't find. It needs the quill/spindle assembly. Anyone have suggestions on where to find one?

Just what is wrong is it a simple bearing problem? Get dropped and bent??

What are your plans if fixed?

I take it you tried searching under the manufacture and model # and got nothing.

If you can`t find the correct parts and it is worth the time and effort adapt it to using something Current.

Depending on your needs $100.00 or so to $250.00 gets you a new one with warranty.

How much time and money do you want to spend??

I paid $25.00 for a made in Taiwan drill press still going 30 years later.

    Entire quill assembly is gone.

    Use it.

Yes. I tried looking, found some, but either too short or wrong diameter.

I have a working bench top press at home but it would be nice to have something with a bit more power. Plus it was free.

I won't be able to find anything new as ridged as this for anything cheap.

And I enjoy fixing things so time is not really an issue. Everything else is solid.

Re Poll: Junk is a mindset!

Never understood Dads garage full of random crap! Shit everywhere, gotta suck in the stomach to squeeze through! Shit hasn’t moved or seen the light of day in decades!

Then I got a place of my own, bought some shit traded for some shit and then realized I got too much shit! Tossed some shit, needed some shit I tossed!

Now I hold on to it for a retention period of 2 years! If I don’t use it to mcguyver the fuck out of something I’ll toss it or give it away! I don’t know how many times when I was just scrapping everything I’d need something off of it or think of a way to repurpose it and not have it!

I've seen a few on there, but dimensions aren't right. I can turn one if needed, but at that point it's probably not worth the cost/time

Nice work Shane, that's good stuff.

With a baby on the way, we've been dejunking quite a bit inside. Garage has unfortunately been the spillover where things in limbo go.

I think Covid killed (real) moonshine. Guys around here are saying production is shut down and has been. I'll keep digging and report back.

    No signs yet.

That's pretty much me. Though my dad was way worse, he was a child of the depression.

Seems like most people who are handy/mechanically inclined have a tendency to hoard. You never know when it'll save you a trip to the hardware store and save some money...

I don't really need one at home, but for free and a hundred or so for parts it'd be great to have. Otherwise I don't really have the room for it currently and couldn't justify the cost.

I tossed a bunch, left a bunch of stuff last move. Still got a lot to thin out. Its useful but im getting to point if it doesnt sell at yard sale its getting donated or tossed. Some small stuff is one of a kind for civilians to have...like those aircraft engine turbine blades. They are too cool to get rid of...I know, i know, thats what a hoarder says.

Thanks for all your help. I see old DialArc 250 HF on eBay so I was assuming there would be some sort of HF mods I could make to add the HF box and pedal.

I’ll just look at the Vulcan line you recommend. I just need to learn basic TiG and then aluminum.

I still might buy the Dial Arc 250 if I can get my boss to lower the price so I can add the torch and gas set up to practice tigging mild and stainless.

I agree for the most part since I’m finding out it will be a huge pain to convert. I just might but it anyway to TiG mild and stainless
