If you've got it taken apart post a picture of the carnage, and maybe we might have ideas you hadn't thought of. I wonder is a piece of square gear rack could be turned for the quill, then bore it? That stuff probably expensive though too.
Shame to see a old piece of equipment like that, junked now and most likely due poor maintenance and upkeep through the years.

What part of HHI is this

 

What qualifies as a beach trip? I got all the sand you could ever want in Utah, but if you want water to go with it, that might be a dealbreaker.

 

The water will be around room temperature, which I'm sure will feel cold, but strictly speaking, we are going to a beach in Mackinaw City, MI on the shore of Lake Huron.

To offset that, we're at the beginning stages of booking the February trip to Kauai where there will be many beaches.

Agreed. This will be our 3rd time there. Still itching to make it back to Maui but that just doesn't seem to want to happen.

 

North Forest Beach

 

The prettiest beach I've ever been on was in Maui.

 

If that's the one on the Road to Hana, I drove over there with the kids while my wife was in her conference. There was a trail to get up on the cliff that made for a great view.

I was sick (like in bed for 2 days then forced myself to at least go sit on a beach sick...) for half of the Maui trip so we didn't ever really find a beach to claim there. On the Big Island, though, it's definitely Hapuna.

 

I don't know what kind of sick you were but we took the kids to Dollywood a few years ago and I had the squirts for 2 days. It's no fun riding a roller coaster while trying to hold that in

The fact you all take your families on a real vacation is impressive never having gone on one till I was out on my own.

Though I did travel quite often for Work maybe that counts ?
