    New poll.

When I was a kid I got dads belt most of the time. I never got a whipping I didn’t deserve although I did miss out on several I should have gotten.

My mom used to buy my brother and I those wooden paddles with the rubber ball attached by a rubber band. When the band broke she laid them on top of the fridge and used them to whip us.

One day she popped me across my thigh as I was sitting down not eating my lunch and it broke in half. I laughed. She said “you won’t be laughing when your dad gets home”. I can still here that thin black belt clearing the loops.

I’m 45, my dad is 71, he can change the tone of his voice to me right now and I’ll straighten up.

Now that I’ve gotten older and have kids, I realize they disciplined me out of love, the same as my wife and I do to our kids.

Those days I tend to forget I never really had a dad or Father From the time I was old enough to understand I called him the Sperm Donor.

I guess when Mom Got Pregnant He never figured out that babies needed lots of attention In this day I can picture Mom being dragged off for an Abortion. He was so very jealous of me taking up Mom`s time cutting into the time she should be at his beck and call. He did is own thing I thought it was common for other kids to get some how forgotten at stores .

I got real good at finding my way home and learned to pay attention going anyplace.

Don't remember the discipline, just that it hurt and lesson learned. It was all love though. My old man was a big big guy, shear stance scare me and other people into compliance lol. Watched him man handle things you wouldn't thing a human could ever do on their own. That was crazy too and scare ya into compliance lol.

Brother joe and I were raised by grandparents and they set us straight on how to earn, respect people and things... didn’t take long for us to do it the “right” way

I never had grandparents, my dads parents were killed in a car wreck when he was 12. Both my moms parents passed before I was born. I had a few people in my life growing up that were fill in grandparents though.

Same as my missus on her dad's side, auto wreck not long after she wad born. Sad.
As for the discipline, I took my lumps. Every one of 'em damn well deserved. I got no scars...(from that) :D
Spare the rod, spoil the child was the SOP back then, and in most cases it worked as designed. (IMO)
