Lsu deal sounds not fun dealing with that.
Small can be great though. That's what we would like but with a good size piece of land to live on for peace and quiet. Probably a pole barn / steal building to house our toys.

Your right about that it does add up. I've moved for work to provide better. May have one or two moves left in me. Eeking out a living for the fam, not a bad thing. It's all for them, gotta have an set after I'm gone esp for the kiddo.

Re poll: learned stick welding from a couple buddies in the military. A great skill to have for fixing stuff.

My dad taught me how to weld on his Lincoln buzz box like this one pictured when I was 10 years old in 1985. I remember it like it was yesterday. He still has and uses the same welder.

That’s why we send 98% of our tig welding out at work. Our machine is small for one thing and I don’t do it enough to be good at it.

Agree, I'll only get back into stick welding only because I think I can remember a lot with a bit of help from a friend. I use to always get into fun projects with friends.

The thing with School some teachers teach others are putting in there time I was lucky I had a few good teachers over the years .

Now I did deal with all the area Tech school teachers some really great ones out there others I really wonder.

I will say in my day a welding movie was 16mm and most likely to put you to sleep .

Have a chance for school check out the instructors back ground go from there.

I am on the fence about completely self taught welders I will always give them a chance to take the get the interview weld test.

Haha Good old Lincoln Tombstone 225AC welder you would be surprised at the number of people that bring those in saying they no longer work .

Only because they have no clue how to strike the Arc.It was always me that got asked here see if this works the load bank says it does .

The fact the electrodes have been out in the damp garage or barn for 30 years might also play into things

I did a summer class (open to anybody) at high school. The class was popular with older people with projects they wanted to make but didn't but didn't have welders. Cost for the class was $30 or $40 including material you needed; it had to be in stock but you could bring special that you needed for your project. All manner of welding rods were available. I had just purchased a welder (Miller Thunderbolt) and needed practice burning rods. The class was one night (6-9) a week for 8 weeks, some of that was lecture time mostly on safety but also included the 'how-to' of joints and rod properties. Since I was new at welding I spent almost all of my time burning rods. My project was a 4 X 4 X4 pad! Plus a lot of arc start practice.

Note: Most of the rod was donated from welding suppliers and welding shops. The stuff from shops was sort of old, make practice a little harder. I was thinking that I probably burned a couple hundred dollars of rods.

It should come as a surprise to exactly no one that I've never welded.

Unless spot welding a tool box in middle school counts.
