Started with the Good Old Votech in High school back in those days( early seventies) it seems those of us deemed slower or just plain stupid were funneled off to tech as to not impede the college bound.

18 years old being told you gotta earn the big $$ and having no idea what a good job was I bounced all over the country doing what ever I could to earn the most money.

Ended up back in Eastern Pa was working for a company that was to invested in one company for work they failed and I was unemployed I was able to get a Federal education program for free (tax $$ at work) Millwright maintenance tech at the Local Community college .

Finding out that post high school education is so very different I spent every extra minute in the welding Lab kinda neat you can go have a beer with the teacher.

Then as time allowed I went back and paid for extra work Pipe Welding and out of Position Tig welding.

    All back in the eighties

I went to TWS many years ago then decided I didn’t want to chase the welding jobs so went into millwright apprenticeship which took me all over the world in the mining field.

It was fate I was on my way to work on the Alaska Pipe Line The ferry broke down being young with no patience I said screw this Now I am not sure if any of those welders are still alive welding in those shanties long before fancy hoods with the filters. All those Iron Oxide particles.

I guess it all worked out .

I did far more Millwright work then out and out welding.

In 2009 I was laid off. Went back to school at local tech College for their welding program. Classes in mig, tig and stick. Part of it also included a metal fabrication class. My final project was a smoker. Also had classes in welding blueprints, math and computers. All paid for through government programs.
Never did get a welding job, but the schooling helped with getting my current position when it opened up at work.
My wife got me a Clark flux core wire welder for Christmas. Not the best welder, but for around the house its ok.

I've launched springs tearing down M1 Carbines and Garands in the past, but, luckily, I've always found them. Unfortunately, I've never been big on keeping a bunch of spare parts laying around. I should probably consider changing that, especially with how bad part availability is right now.

So much for Midway's customer service, they're no help. Ordered springs from Brownell's.
