    Hello TW,

I just signed up, and while i don't own a tacoma yet ... I am hot on the path to ownership. My current truck is a 2002 Nissan Frontier that I bought new, and although still running fairly well, the fuel system - even after a overhaul - has issues. Nissan has recalled the fuel tanks, and fuel senders, etc., on the 2004-2007/8 Frontiers, due to the identical problems I had, and continue to still experience to a lesser degree. The tanks, senders, etc., all were identical from 2001-2007/8, but Nissan decided not to extend the recall back to my model year. I spoke to Nissan USA, and no they were not any help. So I am going to buy a Toyota Tacoma, Double Cab, 6cyl.

The dealerships around me are pushing the 2019, but since I still can "use" my current truck I have no problem waiting until the 2020s show up. In my research I have uncovered some documented issues with the third gen Tacoma 6cylinder motors and transmissions, and Toyota has been working to correct the issues, and has made progress in the more recent models. I also like the idea of a infotainment center with a Apple Car Play interface - first arrival in the 2020 model year.

Any advice you can pass along would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

Wait for the 2020 unless you can get a hell of a deal on a 2019.

Welcome to TW. If you're not in a hurry, wait until the 2020 for the Apple Car Play and other minor tweaks/improvements. Overall, you can't go wrong whichever way you choose. These are great trucks!

The 2019 and 2020 will be the same drivetrain. So you will have to wait for the redesign if you want to avoid the more common documented issues of the third generation you have been researching. Ignore those issues at your own peril. Thats what I'm doing. I sold the Tacoma and bought the Ranger as a placeholder. In 20XX I will decide between the new redesigned Tacoma or the redesigned Ranger.
I don't hate any brand. Nor am I beholden to any brand. I have an open mind about these trucks.

I'm in the same boat. I went to a dealership on Tuesday and they didn't have any of the double cab off road in stock. They tried to track one down with no luck, I was told they can do a factory order but the wait can be 2-3 months. No sense in waiting that long and getting the 19 if there isn't much difference in price. Did you hear anything about the price difference between the years? I'm in Canada so that may change things a bit too.

Bought a 2019, Silver Double Cab, TRD Sport yesterday. The local dealer was/is very motivated to move the 2019s out, and after "shopping" last week, the dealership followed up with me on Monday with a generic email asking if there was anything else they could do ... ! I replied, the GM (not a line or regular manager) quickly replied back and asked what would it take to sell an on-the lot vehicle to me this month (i.e., before the end of business tomorrow). I sent an offer in at lunch, detailing the model I test drove, with stock number, and an OTD price. Less than 90mins later, the GM replies with SOLD.
