I bought a 27f champion from pep boys the other day - 150? or so? Oil change place went down the street and got it for me, installed it, and put it on my oil change bill. Seems perfect.

What was the date of manufacture? Those AGM batteries sit for a long time in my experience. Not a lot of people in my area willing to pay for much beyond standard.

I’m still rocking my OEM battery and it’s a 2013...has to get replaced before the winter.

Liquid lead acid is cheaper than gel. If this is a daily driver AGM is not really getting you twice the longevity for twice the price in my experience. If you store the truck for longer periods without a charge than AGM has its place. If you really want to be price conscious (shouldn’t we all) than two standard lead acid (liquid) will last longer than one AGM (gel).

I went this route also because I prefer having a sealed battery. In my first truck I had problems lol. The original battery mount under hood broke, and battery fluid everywhere. After that I moved one to the bed and had fluid leaking from the cap. After going through that with standard batteries I ended up going red top Optima. Got maybe 4 years out of that one. When it went bad I replaced it with a yellow top cause my buddy was getting them new for stupid cheap. Ever since I made the switch to AGM I never went back. My offroad driving style back then was different, full long travel, caged, open desert go fast trucks and thus needing something that can withstand that abuse. I might not need something like that now since I want to get into the more slow 4x4 trail aspect , but at least I dont have to worry about my battery giving me any issues when I'm in the middle of nowhere

I'll be the weirdo here. Wound up trying an experiment with a 34R Duracell Ultra. Purchased a smaller (non tow package) OEM tray, with an aftermarket jeep tie down. 6 pounds lighter than the Duralast Gold 27F that it replaced (which only lasted 2.5 years in the AZ heat, same as the OEM battery). I don't run accessories/radios and such with the truck off. Will see how long it lasts. Also note the smaller Duracell has 65 more CCA than the Duralast.

Also, I read somewhere that the batteries on the store shelf might be half way charged, and might not appreciate how fast the alternator charges them to full on day one. So I trickle charged this Duracell for about 8 hours until it read full. Then installed it.

Cheapest battery I found besides that was $140. Walmart doesn't stock the 27f for whatever reason. Yes,standard battery. And to be perfectly honest,I didn't even know what an AGM battery was.
