^^^^ x2 I work for a landscape supply company and I loaded my truck with 3/4 yard and it was full to the top. Btw I hate loading shortbeds with a 6.5 foot wide bucket, lol

x2. That last place I worked, if you had a pick-up bed you had to sign a waiver before we'd load you, regardless of the bed size. We'd only load dump body pick-ups or rack trucks without the waiver.

Firewood gathering trip. I have to say that this year was much better than last year due to having the Harsh Ride TSB done. I have almost no sinking of the tail end this year.

That was my first time loading the Taco up with a yard of anything, so I wasn't sure if i was being shorted or not (much less it being watered down!) They didn't go by weight, they just had a small bobcat with a 4 foot bucket on it. The guy put a couple of them in and said it was a yard worth. I paid around $30/yard for black mulch (i've never heard of double ground mulch?) but thank you for pointing that out. I betcha i was shorted but like you said, let by-gones be by-gones, at least i know better for next time.

Only someone who spent 13 years in the landscaping field would really care what its called. :p More specific i suppose, it was triple mix. Soil, dirt, ground, its all same to me. ;)

Alright, the soil/dirt shit bothers me. Its soil damn-it! It's DYNAMIC for Christ sake!:annoyed: Ok, I feel better now. But yeah, a 4 ft BobCrap bucket is closer to 3/4 yd or even less if leveled off. A light-materials bucket might be a Cu. Yd. although the regular GP low profile buckets are reduced.

Double-ground is heartwood based mulch, run though a grinder twice. Bark mulch is just that, shredded bark. A lot of dyed mulches are actually shredded pallets run over a magnet to remove nails. Playground mulch is actual heavier wood chips, known to contain no metals, chemicals or irritant saps (gotta watch out for the kids).
Your soils are either unscreened, screened or amended. Clumps/rocks, no clumps/no rocks, and no clumps/no rocks and mixed with mushroom soil.
I always loved the people who would pull in with a Ford Sport-trac or Chevy Avalanche and want a full Cu.Yd. Never had waivers, I flat out would not load a vehicle over weight. Feather it in to where the leafs are 1/2 way to the bumpstops and pro-rate it. Short beds can be easier loaded diagonally.
Sorry this got so long winded, I could go on all day. Landscapers unite! Actually I gave it up 2 years ago and now work in a lead/acid battery plant, its much more reliable and secure. haha
    Did I miss anything?

Oh, and $30/yd. retail is pretty good for bulk dyed. I knew I forgot something. Even cheaper is looking up a tree care company and asking for a scoop of 2 of their plain, aged wood chips, all natural and sometimes even free.

Was all that pine/spruce? The only thing I was not impressed with on the west coast during snowmobiling trips was the abundance of softwoods for firewood. Sure burns nice and hot, but way too fast. Everything else, awesome.

Thanks Nathan for teaching me about mulch and dirt, err soil. ;) Who'd a thought they made bulk dyed mulch outta pallets though. Excellent tip regarding the tree company, i may just have to save a few bucks (or money all together) and see if i can get some from them instead. One things for sure though, i plan on using a trailer for a yard of anything instead of my box. Much more peace of mind that way, especially since its hard to estimate the weight most of the time...

Not a pic of a Taco, but it is good for a few "WTF is that shit?" kind of laughs!
