I'm curious what problems would be encountered if I wanted to put a 1st gen DC bed on a 1st gen reg cab frame? Do the bed mounts not line up? Or do they line up and it is as simple as ditching the little frame-to-bumper assembly pieces?
And does anybody have a picture of this setup?

You need to think carefully about where the wheels line up with the bed. What you will find out, is that you would have to set the bed back on the frame (i.e., with a huge gap between the back of the cab and front of the bed) in order for the wheels to line up.

In other words, doing surgery like this isn't a simple matter of putting on the shorter bed and lopping off the back end a bit, but rather the back wheels would need to be moved forward. That means that the frame gets shortened in the MIDDLE.

I very strongly advise against this kind of modification.

Now just shortening it off at the back? Go for it. Unfortunately, a short box is not going to help with this kind of thing.

I figured it would be a fairly involved project. Just wondering out loud. Thanks for the info!

I love that, if they sold a truck like that, I'd buy one.
