Short bed if you plan on rock crawling for that shorter wheelbase.
Long bed if your “off road” definition is fire roads or easy trails. Long bed is also better for camping to have the extra space for storage/sleeping space

Long bed regardless of how much time on or offroad, you always have the extra space.

No doubt. When my Uncle Pete was alive he only drove pickups with 108 inch beds. Like his '57 Ford. This way, when all his buddies were hauling eight foot 2x4's he was hauling nine footers.

If you're talking double cab Toyota's the long bed isn't enough bigger to help anything and you end up with the same overall length as a 1/2 ton. If I'm going to drive a truck that long it makes no sense to handicap myself with the smaller cab, reduced payload and towing of a Tacoma. Just buy an extended cab 1/2 ton at the same length and get a longer, wider, deeper bed with the same size back seat and significantly better towing and payload ratings. With about the same fuel mileage.

If you don't need the cab space and want to save a little money the Access cab with a 6' bed is the same length as a DCSB. If you really want to push the limits off road the best Toyota's are the now discontinued regular cabs.

Or better yet get a short wheelbase SUV such as a Wrangler. Trucks, even smaller trucks are capable of hauling and towing more gear, but will always be a compromise off road compared to a small SUV.

Both great trucks. IMO dclb for me. Short bed will be better for crawling.

My dealer told me that the 2021 trd sport was the only option for a 6' bed. A 6' bed was paramount for me, so that is what i went with. Does this option change depending on the counrty you're in, or was he full of shit?

Honestly, you can make anything work. Does anyone wish the Tacoma came with an even longer bed?

Without a doubt SB, long bed can easily get hung up on things. That's why jeep rubicon with it's locomotive wheel base is not a great off roader.

The long or short, each is gonna have its pros and cons offroad with the wheel base. Personally I prefer my short bed. Has the space I need and not so long it's like a full size truck.
