Hey everyone, I have a 2018 Tacoma with a 5 ft bed. I’m in the construction business so I’m constantly having to load things in my bed and am looking for a place to store my tools. I really want a tool box but I’m worried it will take up too much bed space. Anyone else have a toolbox in their 5 ft bed? If so, how does it affect how much you can load in the bed? Thanks in advance.

I have this one, it steels about 19 inches of your bed. and the space underneath the tool box is only the height of the wheel wells. so I now need to use a bed extender to load plywood.

I don't know what kind of seats the SR has in the back, but if you have the 60/40 you could take the 40 side and secure a pretty good sized container there. That would be removable and would leave your bed empty. Just a thought...

19773BB2-EC9A-4A54-955F-8917526ACA04.jpg I have an 18" box. Basically makes the bed 3-1/2' now. It sucks. But at the same time it useful. A lot of crap I don't want in my cab gets thrown in there and I know it's relatively safe. And the 3' of use able bed space is kinda sufficient for my needs. Anything large like dirt bikes and I do take out the box unless whatever the item is can hang over the edge. Then I just drop the tailgate and strap it in.

If you have just hand tools, you may be able to fit them in ammo cans on the wheel wells. They’re super cheap, lockable, secure to the bed rail, waterproof and easy access.

    Construction business?

Sounds like you should just get the tool box and get a trailer for when the bed is t enough.

Put side bed stiffeners on if you use a toolbox that mounts over the wheel wells onto the sidewalls, or that composite bed will crack.
