Anybody sleep inside their short bed with cap/top on it? I am no genius but I am 5'9" which in my handy dandy calculator comes out to be 69 inches....hahahaha I said 69!:D

Anyway, the bed is right around 61 inches and that means I no fit. But then I wondered, I dont think I ever sleep with my legs straight out. I am not certain since I am asleep when I am sleeping hahaha but I think I am usually curled up.

So I post the question...short bed sleeping...not is it doable BUT is it comfortable??

Very, use the hypotenuse if you need to stretch out or tailgate down.

My legs get sore if I can't fully extend them occasionally. YMMV

I'm 6'0 and obviously it didn't work out for me, even diagonally. I used to sleep in my Durango all the time and it was great.. air mattress and all. I bought a Tacoma Sport this time with a long bed, don't think I could sleep in it either. I only slept in my truck in October in Erie when it got below freezing, so sleeping with the tailgate down isn't an option for me. Of course some of those fishing trips... I may not even know the tailgate is down... :D

maybe if you slept on an angle. It would probably help to have a platform above the wheel arch so you have a bit more room to spread out

I have a LB and am just shy of 6 foot. So not a issue for me personally. But what about soft reclining chair? Like they use on offshore boats. I h ave two gaming chairs that my kids love. That would also work great. Where your head is slightly elevated. Like when you pass out watching TV on a couch. That would shorten your overall length significantly. Check these options at Target

I am 5'4" and recently slept in the back of my DCSB. My sleeping pad was too long so had to roll it up. If you sleep on your side with your legs curled up, you're probably pushing it. I had another 5'4" human and a 70lb in the back as well so it was a very tight fit and my legs were sore the next morning.

Yes. I spent an entire summer sleeping in the bed of my truck. If you make a shelf in the bed where the lip/notches are you will fit diagonally. My dog (75 lb's) and I fit. Two dogs = wont fit. When it was nice I would keep the tail gate down and hang my legs off the end. When it rained, I would close the tailgate and top and sleep diagonally.

^i like this thinking. I'm gonna work on something like this. It is so awesome easy and fast to sleep in truck. Just gotta figure a way with the tailgate down. I think I might set up a cot with an easy up for rain protection this summer.

I sleep in the bed but I'm only 5'7" so with the tailgate down I can stretch out and I'm good to go! I'll also sleep and doze off in my driver seat, with it reclined. Sometimes I take naps on my work break.

This was my setup from last night. gotta have the tailgate down, but a 30 dollar tent does the job real well. I also used some small cord to do a criss cross to the top where the poles meet so it doesnt get blown in the wind... makes it nice to be able to drive with the tent setup in the bed of the truck around the lil town i was in.

Thanks for all the replies and links to other threads. For a BIG trip I am making this summer, I was already thinking of making and installing a platform in order to make more "organized" room. With just a little extra bracing it can function as a bed platform if needed. My gf and I are only planning on sleeping in the truck 2 to 4 times in a matter of 30 days BUT all the ideas, links, and suggestions will help in my design. Pics to come here::
