Imo, those 5' short beds are worthless to me. I'd even be happier with a longer than 6' bed.

Depends on your patience dealing with tire kickers and flakers on FB, CL, etc. Think of it this way, you're pay a bit of money (the loss between trade in vs private seller) to avoid those hassles. Comes down to what is your time worth?

I've sold two vehicles, one via Craigslist and one via Facebook, to the first people who looked at them. Stating it's no holds and cash or cashier's check only weeds out the non-serious people. The minor investment of time was worth the $2k-4k+ markup a dealer would slap on.

This was a trade in offer so I surmise better than a purchase offer. But OP is looking for another Taco so he should at least see what the dealer can offer.

When I bought my truck in May of last year it was the only one on the lot with the exact equipment packages I wanted, and it just happened to be a long bed. That extra foot has come in handy more than once.

+1 for dealer to see if they'll buy it back. Otherwise check carvana or shift as others have mentioned

I wanted a long bed specifically. Local dealer had a sport on the lot they were willing to make a deal on.
Got it juuuuust before the chip shortage. Longer bed has come in handy many times. It’s the way to go in my opinion

Another thing to consider is most do not have the cash for such a new (?) vehicle and banks will only loan a certain percentage of the total book value for a private transaction. Banks will be more free with a car dealer whom they know and trust.

See I actually feel like if you want longer than a 5' bed you should just go with a full size truck that actually has the payload to back it up, mid-size just ain't the segment for that
