I am currently shopping around for a new Tacoma... and I am wanting to get a short box but concerned on how my 3 dogs will fit back there. I have a 180 lb English Mastiff, an 80 lb Lab and a 60 lb Border Collie.

Does anyone have problems with room in the short boxes? Dogs, Camping gear, etc.?

I personally would never drive with my dog in the bed, she rides in the back seat, folded down, with a net behind the front seats.

I do plan on having a camper shell for the most part but my boys love to ride in the back.

Long beds are only a foot shorter. If your dogs did fine in 6ft bed (based on your profile picture), they should be fine in 5 ft; unless they were really cramped.

I didn't think it was legal to do this, but I guess it depends on where you live:

I am from Northern Nevada and people everywhere here haul their dogs in the bed of the truck. I did not know it was illegal other places. That is good to know.
