I have the URD STS and like it a lot. Easy install and significantly reduces the throw.

Per their site: Shifts are short throws; about 44% less.

No its not ridiculously tight but reverse does take a little getting used to.

I've had my URD in for 100K, and I love it. Reverse is the only issue. It takes a technique to get it past lock out,...a light pop with the hand. I have had issues letting anyone drive the truck without training them first on the reverse. If you don't pop the shifter, you can put way too much force on it trying to get it to move. I don't let anyone pull my truck in for service anymore because of it. I hated the stock shifter!

I installed a URD STS a month after I bought my truck, it's easy to install and reduces the length of throw greatly. One of the best mods I've done. Reverse can be a little trickier to get into, get used to slapping the shifter over to get it to engage

    This vv
I do the same thing, slap the shifter with a little momentum over into reverse. After doing it for a couple days you don't even think about it anymore.

I have had the URD short shifter since '08. I like it a lot. Reverse is tricky but not too bad, it just takes a little more effort to get there but if I can take it to a car wash and the dealership and they can figure it out, I'm pretty sure you can.

Talk to @Coupe and get one of his modified URD or TRD short shifters.

A shorter shifter (on anything) will certainly reduce the distance your hand travels. But if the fulcrum point doesn't change to compensate for the reduced leverage, it will increase effort.

Whether that increased effort is enough to bother a given driver is very subjective of course. But use caution before throwing your money at the internet. It would be to any buyers advantage to find a local with what they are interested in installed and try it if at all possible.

In addition, the weight of the shift knob is a factor. Reducing that weight increases effort required, raising the weight reduces effort required.

So it's often a good idea to increase the weight of the shift knob when just shortening the shifter.

The simple visual is a playground teeter totter. They usually have various fulcrum points to compensate for different sized users.

Throw is shorter than stock nothing crazy, reverse does take a little more effort. Don't know why?
