I've had three Runners- 87, 90, and 94. All among the best rigs I've ever had. Congrats on your score.

4Runner= Bullet proof. If it had a little more power I would have kept it, just didn't have enought to do the towing I needed. But heres a few pics... I miss it...

They are Duratracs. Road ride is good, they do hum a little. I did get the C load rating vs the E load so they have a thinner sidewall.

Is no one else gonna call BS on paying $22,200 for a brand new vehicle and selling it a year later for $22,500? Sorry man, but that kind of deal doesn't happen. Your brand new car loses at least $2K when you drive it off the lot...

Yeah I was wondering why someone would buy a used vehicle for more than a new one, but hey if they did then that's awesome.

Everytime I dealt with the idea of trading my truck in at the dealer for a different one they all wanted to give me wholesdale price. I have NEVER seen a dealer that doesn't want to do that. Hmmmm

Wow, no one believes anybody anymore... Really, what would I gain for making up fake figures for a car deal? I dont think I am going to impress anyone on here.

I will break it down and tell me if you still think it is BS.

In May of 09' I bought a brand new Frontier. The dealers price after negotiations was 25,182. At the time there was a $3k rebate on Frontiers so that brought the price down to $22,182. Now, this does not factor in DMV fees that were $218.

Current trade in (Wholesale) on the Frontier:

    Exc cond $23,225
    Good cond $22,225
    Fair $20,475

They gave me $22,500 which is between good and exc. Keep in mind the truck had 8k on it and was never taken off road and always garaged.

As most of you know, dealers work in a wholesale / retail world. KBB Retail excellent condition on the Frontier is $29,245. I looked up the dealers website and the Frontier is on there for $24,XXX.

I paid a little less than retail for the 4runner. Retail I think was around $9100 and I paid $8875. If my 4runner was for sale on the private market it would probably sell for around $7k or so. Without a trade in its not worth what I paid, it just made sense on paper.

Current rebate on the Frontier is $2k, when I got $3k it was the highest its ever been. And that is paid direct from the manuf, not the dealer. This fluctuates and if it affects the value of the vehicle on KBB, its not by much.

I did my homework and saved up front on the Frontier. Basically the factory rebate soaked up the depreciation I would have been hit with in that first year of ownership.

Remember, this is a Nissan not a Toyota. I was actually able to negotiate and get a good price on it when it was new. I paid way less than what it was worth vs a Toyota that you pay what its worth if not a little more. Toyota people will talk all day how Toyota's hold there value more than any other car and I would agree that its true. However, like I said before you pay more up front so its almost a wash when its time to sell or trade in.

    Does that all make sense?

I liked it, nice truck for the money.

I looked at Tacoma's too when I bought it, but they were about $5k more for something similar and I wasnt fond of the plastic bed, plastic front bumper, and a few other things.

I think the 2nd gen Frontiers have some quality issues that seem to plague them, even 6 years into their current production (timing chain guides, radiator/tranny cooler failures, etc). Mine didnt seem to suffer from any of them, but again it only had 8k on it.

The construction was very solid, it seemed to be built like a tank. Also heavy as hell, couldnt get over 17 mpg's even with a light foot and all freeway. It was a powerhouse, 265 HP and you could certainly feel it, well especially compared to the 4runner.

If I was looking for a new midsize pickup again, I would still consider a Frontier.
