But the newer 2nd Gens were losing MPGs (I presume because of added weight). The 3rd Gen has even more weight and the height of the new truck due to pedestrian safety issues would have killed even more MPGs. I wish that the 3rd Gens got better MPGs than they do but they are still an improvement over the 2nds.

This truck does not get its average mpg estimates. It doesn't get 23/24 highway. The older gen with a bigger engine got the same Mileage. Should have been a much greater than .5 mpg better if even that... I know a ton of guys like myself who would kill to average 18.5

JFC. They tell you right on the web. I'm gonna guess you also didn't pay $24K for your truck either.

Very Flat....not like Pittsburgh where i grew up, but that was a 3.5 hour road trip from Columbia SC to Wilmington NC. All flat and that was the highest I saw, but averaged around 24 about 90% of the way..

To be fair, it's a much smaller pool on the 3rd gens. I wouldn't be surprised to see that number increase once you get a similar number of 3rd gens in there.

Actually the pool of third gens is larger. Look at the number of vehicles and miles tracked.

My commute is 3.5 miles with small hills. In the summer I average 20-22 mpg. In the winter with temps around 20-30 degrees and 4x4 I average 14.

My bad. I looked quickly at the F-150 post.

They are about to have a recall with the CPS and I think it has something to do with the guys who are getting 13pmg. There's like 35000 trucks with the issues. I also have stubbles in my engine so I think I'm affected

Of course it does, everyone just has a misconception of what EPA highway mileage means. The 3rd gen gets better test #s because it is more efficient during the lower output portions of the test due to the lower displacement and wider vvt ('Atkinson' if we must). At 70+ mph they get the same because there is no such thing as magic.

Below are the two highway tests. They both average 48 mph; the old test never goes above 60 and the new high speed / aggressive driving test has four stops and three near stops.
    [IMG][IMG]
I was perplexed by the high speed mpg until I found the specs that show how much force it takes to maintain those speeds. (From the EPA ABC coefficients.) It takes about 10% less force to push a 4wd Canyon at 70 mph as a 4wd Off-road Tacoma.... and it takes the same force to push some full size trucks at 70mph. A Tesla model S takes half the force.

I usually get 17-18 on my 30 mile commute to work, Louisiana... all flat. Recently took it to Tennessee got 19 on the tank when the roads were flat, got 15 when I got in the hills, 75 the whole way.

Fuelly numbers are overrated. I get great gas mileage. I'm not on fuelly. Consistently in the low 20s. My last two full tank avg were just above 23mpg. Did a 40 mile drive the other day damn near 28mpg. It's all about how you drive it, air temp/psi/wind/hills/cc do play small parts. It can do the sticker if you want it to.

Overrated How? It's probably the best single source of real world fuel economy data that exists.
