I bought a 2017 SR5 in late December. I only put about 600 miles on the truck per month. I am currently at 2730 miles. I'm coming up on my 6 month maintenance, which I get for free via ToyotaCare.

The maintenance schedule recommends an oil change if you have repeated trips under 5 miles in sub 32 degree weather. I live in Pennsylvania and my commute to work is just over 3 miles, so yea I did have a lot of trips like that. I'm guessing the oil change isn't covered under ToyotaCare since it is a "special" circumstance. Is it really necessary to change the oil, especially considering I only have 2730 miles on the truck? Or can I just stick to the normal maintenance schedule?

My commute is about the same. About 3-4 miles. It gets below 32 regularly. It shouldn't be an issue. I've got little over 5k now. I don't intend to change my oil until 10k. Beauty of synthetic oil. I will check it with Blackstone, though.
