Anyone else receive an email on 120% trade in value to upgrade to a 2016? States that they have a high demand and shortage for used Tacoma's. Not really interested since I really like my 2015, but interesting.

What??????? That's pretty wild! I wonder how they determine who to send the emails to. How many miles on your taco? I would never go third gen but I'm very curious about this

Dealers send that to anyone regardless of what they drive, so you come in and buy a new truck. I've gotten those for every single vehicle I have ever purchased from a dealer.

Yeah, but the 120% trade in value that the OP mentioned was in the letter, that's the wild part

I used to get these all the time for my first gen. Just churning the owner base to try to increase 2016 sales. They don't call them stealerships for nothing.

"Trade In Value" at a dealer is based on 'fair condition' (the second lowest rating). You get robbed. So at 120% you get slightly less robbed, but they are still robbing you while you are also paying them for a brand new truck. So they are still winning on both sides.

Example: Your mint condition 2015 TRD Pro is rated at a "trade in value" of $24,718. Brutal. So they offer you 120% and say they will give you $29k. They make money selling your old truck for $35k and make money selling you the new one.

This x10. Those letters are no different than the ones offering free stuff for taking a test drive. Just meant to get you on the lot to sell you another vehicle for as much as possible, while giving you as little as possible for your trade. The latest trick around here is making the envelope look like a tax document (around tax time) so you'll open the envelope.

Local Chrysler/Jeep dealer made it look like a recall notice, so you had to bring your vehicle in to get checked and they would offer to buy it back at 120% of trade in. Of course they ended up getting sued and lost.

Whats that old saying..."if something sounds too good to be true..."

That being said, with some decent negotiating I could come out with a 2016 for what I pay monthly on my 2015. Theres just one problem: I don't really want a 2016.

I love that sand/tan color (don't know the paint code), thats the only one that could convince me to swap lol.

Yeah just a marketing ploy to get you to buy another truck.

These letters are just marketing ploys like others said. Funny how 3 out of 4 of my vehicles are all in high demand. I got one on my 2009 Prerunner that offered a ridiculous trade value. I copied it and sent to the sales director with a letter asking why they would insult my intelligence. The offer was $11,500 while the real value was $19,000. Letter just pissed me off. Good thing that came out it was the relationship it started between myself and the head sales honcho.

I had one offer 150% trade in value. I keep my trucks pristine and my trade in value on my truck was 30k, he then said they would have to do 150% calculated from poor condition... All just a gimmic

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
    It's a selling gimmic!

I hope you didn't fall for that crap?!

Just another ploy by the dealership to get your dumb ass to come in and trade in your's to buy a new one. The dealership is only just concerned about sales on "new vehicles" and could really give a shit about used one's.

Always remember the dealership's only true concern is to make $$$$ and that's it!

A few years ago I received one for my Jetta. I guess they estimated more teenage girls would be car shopping.

    It's the other way around.

Dealers don't make much on new cars. Their margins on used cars are much higher.

The purpose of selling new is to get the vehicle "into the system". Bring it back in 2-3 yrs - trade in - get a lousy trade-in - dealer gives you 30 cents on the dollar - dealer then puts the car on the used lot for 3X what he gave you.

How could they give you 120% of blue book? Simple, just charge full retail on what you are buying.

Do not fall for advertising bullshit!
