Yea my issue is that I only have a single fork (it's a lefty)... so the traditional mount won't work. I think I am going to go for the Dakine Truck Gate Pad thigamajig and then strap it down.

Well I picked up the Dakine (54") pad tonight. I drove home and was thinking oh this thing isn't going to work. So I went out and threw the lefty on it. Wow, I was impressed. Such a basic idea and it seems fairly secure. The front wheel turns and hugs the back door creating a nice tight fit. The only thing I might do is throw a couple of tie downs in case I hit a big bump. I will post some pics this week so you can what I am talking about.

I like that a lot -- keeps it out of harms way but yet still gives you bed space and isn't so high on top that you have to worry about drive throughs or bridges... Looking good. BTW, for future reference what is the kit that you are using for the bike rack?

I used 2 Thule load bars cut to custom length and attached via L brackets from the bars to the OEM Cleats. I've carried 3 bikes and it works well.

T@co - Nice find. Thanks for sharing. I am still liking the gate pad because I don't have to remove the wheel -- the left doesn't have a quick release. It's amazing how many options Yakima has...

    ^ Love that picture

So I added this bike mount on top of the light bar. I don't know about you guys, but my rear tire would hit the tailgate when I used the factory cleat. This method should by me some extra inches.

    No mods whatsoever!
I got a Thule bike rack that secures in the bed. You remove the front wheel and the bikes are held by the forks. I keep plenty of camping gear between the bikes. I'm going camping this weekend. I'll take some pics so you can get an idea.

I have the Rocky SD mounts. They are the shiznit.

I was able to fit the bikes across. Very tight, but it works. As you can see, I was still able to fit a big cooler. Small tent. Air mattress. 3 chairs. 3 sleeping bags. 1 big plastic tub full of cooking equip.

I'm pretty sure I can fit just as many items, if I had the bikes aligned with the truck. Just need to slide the mounts as close to the side as possible.

    Will try it next time.

The more bikes the better! One of the mounts in the bed is from Toyota (not worth the $50). I made the mount for the Scott that's mounted up.

And here I was thinking I was about to bring up an old thread, but a few of you beat me to it.

Got some good idea's in here. I've seen a few sites online showing a DIY PVC Rack that'll fit in the bed.

I have a longbed and I have been thinking about getting a 2x6, cutting it to fit the width of the bed and laying it down in the slat's that are in the side of the bed walls. Then I can attach some of the universal fork mounts to that.

Of course, I'd still have to tie the bikes down, but it's a better solution that what I have right now which is leaning it up against the side of the bed and bungie cording it to the rails. I'm planning on working on it this week, so when I get done, I'll get pics.

Just wanting to do something that's somewhat stable, but also 100% removable and doesn't require me to drill holes in the bed.

Here is what I made with a bike mount from preformance bike, a piece of aluminum deck plate and a factory tie down.(made 2 of these) With this extention it will extend out enough over my tool box to mount. Haven't tried it yet so not sure if I need to tweak on it.How ever they fit nice, I do need to add some little plastic buttons on the bottom of the bolts to sit on top of my tool box for added support, I will mount the bikes soon and take more pics if anyone is interested.. Here is the link I bought the mounts, they are half price right now $10
