This may be a bad suggestion...but how big is the garage ? One car or two ? If it's two and you're the only one parking in it,try backing in at an angle . It may not give you enough room for a huge increase, but maybe just enough....

i'm sure it'd give plenty of room if it was a 2 car garage, but i had just assumed it was 1, esp cause there is no driveway space too

it would give you more room, because the hypotenuse of a triangle is longer than a base

I was assuming that the garage was 3 inches smaller; the ramp would have to have a height of about 36.5 inches. This would lead to a approach angle of 9.3 degrees. (Also assuming I'm not an idiot with my calculations)

    So it might be do-able....

haha 3 ft is super tall, it prob wouldn't work though, cause if you're lifting the front, you're also pushing the tailgate further back, so i think the tailgate would hit the garage then :notsure:

#1 Put an extension on the door
#2 i don't know about townhouses and "RULES" but if they are like apartments with separate garages or just bays with individual doors then see if another one is longer without stairs in the way and see if you can swap parking places.

    Move the exterior wall ?

    1) without a doubt loadbearing
    2) possible electrical
    3) means re-siding
    4) roof probably stops at exterior wall
    5) $

Yeah. I did the math using a 224 inch "stick" and didn't think about the height.

    Sorry OP, think your screwed...

There is a solution here, if you really only need to gain 3". The wall at the front of your garage is at least 2x4 construction, possibly 2x6. This means your cut the drywall off the inside of your garage where you need to, then install a header about 5 feet up on the wall, spanning the width of your truck, call it 7' long to be sure. Basically you are pretending that you are going to install a window/patio door in the wall from your garage to inside your townhome, you just never touch the inside sheetrock.

When you move, you just piece in the studs that you had to remove under the header, install a piece of sheetrock, mud it, and no one ever knows what happened. (screw HOA's).

Miniumum you gain 3.5 inches, probably 5.5 since garage walls adjoining a house are usually built with 2x6's

Still won't work with an overhead door , the rails for the door would have to move out to the new door plane , through the existing header that is carrying the load over the existing opening

Pap's plan of going to a carriage type door hinged on the exterior is the easiest solution
