You know, aside from bein unfinished, I actually like the look of that... And I cant get it into my mind while anyone would buy into a HOA house. Hmm, spend a few hundred grand just to be told you cant do this, cant do that, oh and you have to pay us every year so you cant do what you want. SCREW em, MOVE THE WALL.

 

How do you know it doesn't have a Van Gogh mural painted on it? Or golden drywall? Or he paid $300k, and got a free house with it?

In all seriousness, I can't help but think that if an HOA is full of such anal douchebags that you're putting yourself through the ringer trying to figuee it out, do you really want to live there? Were it me, and it was financially feasible, Id rather move to a place were I could relax when I'm in my own home.

 

You know, it wouldn't be THAT big a deal to reframe the back wall to create a bit of a cubby. I'm sure your strata won't allow you to bump out the back of the house, but they can't stop you from modifying the interior even if you have to tear a hole in the house to do it. You might have to form a few pads to take the load and you'll be guaranteed to need an engineer and a permit, and you have to reside the back of your house and all that - but it will probably cost you 3-5 grand or so depending on so many little details, but it can be done!

 

My HOA (I still don't like them) doesn't care what I do inside of my house at all except the window coverings. Look at your rules. They're mostly concerned about the outside from what I've seen. If you don't have a copy of the rules, you shouldn't have bought the house. No joke.

There are also things they can't control. State and federal laws supersede HOA rules on things like antennas, solar panels, energy efficient windows, etc... Maybe there's an insulated garage door that fits and qualifies.

It might be worth your effort to have yourself removed from the HOA. Probably not easy and I've never tried. I think you'll need a lawyer and some signatures. Or you can try to have the HOA removed. Same thing. Not easy or cheap.

My HOA is financially weak (the ex-conomy) and wouldn't threaten someone without a strong reason. Look at their books. See if other members are paid up. They should be the priority for the HOA.

I'm another one suggesting a smaller truck or (gasp!) car. It's the easiest solution.

 

I saw the link and have seen that done many times. I've been around 4x4's almost my whole life.
