    I did this about a year ago except i used some chain cutters lol
    Reception stayed the same for me and i glued the ball back up but it fell off on the trails, i love having the the same height as my roof, hits things much less now! Nice write up, we need to go wheeling soon!

    ARB bumper, warn 9.5 winch. carbon fiber hood. Leer top with thule racks and MOAB from thule. Electric fans, blue sea fuse block, Sony dvd Head unit, Xm tuner and HD tuner. New carpet and new racing seats. ( other half doesnt like them i think). Nwor springs and adjustable coil overs. Sky jacker rear shocks. Slot and drilled rotors. Engine Titanium ceramic coated headers, no cat, jba cat back. URD Rear Sensor Simulator. Leds all around and inside cab and HID H4 hi/lo beams.
    I almost did that about 2 years ago and went with a power antenna route.

    Nice OP.. I took my antenna off about 8 months ago because I pretty much only listen to Sirius and I like the look with out it, but I get zero radio reception. Think I might try this but cut it down real short, like 6-10 inches. Now the ball might not fit back on, but I'm sure I can round the end and paint it. Do you think radio reception will still be good with the antenna that short??

    I bought a shorty today and installed it. When I was checking which stud to use I got great reception with just the stud. I assume your reception would be quite good with a 6" antenna.

    cut it down to prob only 4-5", used the same technique as OP to attach the ball, then plasti-dipped the whole shabang to make it look nice. Reception is good as it needs to be and I think it looks great..

    I did this mod so I wouldn’t hit my garage door anymore. Went with 26” total length. Sits just above the roofline.
