Once you have a weapon malfunction on you in the middle of a fire fight a time or two you are pretty relaxed in condition 3. I mean, if I were carrying in a bad hood down a dark ally I might go condition 1. But in your day to day for the average person it is just stupid. I can go from condition 3 to 1 in less time than you can blink. To each his own. People watch to many movies.

I have no clue what you're referring to with these conditions. I'll just say that the odds of me ever being in a firefight are extremely remote.

    I am agreeing with you.
Condition 1 (magazine inserted, round in chamber, bolt forward, safety on)
    Condition 2 (not applicable)
Condition 3 (magazine inserted, chamber empty, bolt forward, safety on)
Condition 4 (magazine removed, chamber empty, bolt forward, safety on)

I have my CCW but do not carry. I have a safe in my truck and depending on what is happening in the world I will sometimes put a firearm in there. If I go do something sketchy I might carry but now I just normally do not do that thing. Plenty of people have reason to carry but in my life I just do not. If I go to a movie I do because I am trapped in a fish bowel. But even then it is condition 3. If I go from 3 to 1 you are getting shot.
I try not to judge those who do carry and in whatever condition they choose. As long as they are trained and responsible so be it. Unfortunately the vast majority have no business carrying and pose a much greater risk to the masses having a weapon than the masses do to them without it. I would be much more comfortable if we focused more on peoples mental stableness over being able to put 30 rounds in a paper plate from 10 feet in a range setting.

Thank you for those definitions. I appreciate the clarity.

My background is in bird hunting and I've always taken very, very high safety precautions with my guns. I went grouse hunting with my FIL once and turned around and left after he let his shotgun muzzle wander in my direction. Back in high school, one of my hunting buddies started shooting at a pheasant that was flying away from him and towards me. I had to be restrained from kicking his ass and I never hunted with him again.

I get that. I had a CWP a long time ago when I used to drive a tow truck. I carried a pistol back then because my personal risk was much higher.

I'm in a position in life now where I can and do avoid being in dangerous situations/places.

I’m all in on condition 3 and I agree if I go from 3 to 1 someone’s ass is shot. And 3 to 1 is only a millisecond.

    LOL! So true.

The odds of being in an action movie situation and needing a bunch of 18 rd. clips of ammo for your 9 mm to battle the bad guys is infinitesimal.

The same people who throw out the scenario of "not having time to go condition 1" never broach the idea of in that circumstance statistically never getting the weapon out of the holster. "Oh what if I only have one arm". Really? Come the fuck on. Good luck with your ninja attack.
It is simple stats. In a combat zone with say 1,000 infantry Marines over an 8 month deployment. You will not find a sampling of more proficient people with a weapon system on the planet. In condition 1 outside the wire you will get close to at least 1 ND per day. When compared to the same amount of weapons handling in condition 3 inside the wire you might get 5 over the entire 8 months. If you do it long enough, you will get complacent and you are at a much higher risk than if you removed yourself from a potentially deadly mistake by one very small action. Again, if you live on the Gaza strip. Be locked and loaded. Cruising the suburbs maybe chillout.

Nothing is touching the trigger unless I actually draw the gun.

And if I change my clothes or have to do something I just remove the gun with the holster so there’s no chance of clothing or a finger snagging on the trigger.

Fellas…once you resolve this debate, may I humbly direct your attention to the matter of oil change intervals. Apparently a consensus on this topic has proven elusive over the years, but I have faith you are up to the challenge!

I used to feel the same way when my kids were in the house. If it took me a bit longer to get a round in the chamber, then so be it! But now that they are grown and gone, both the wife and I keep fully loaded ready to fire pistols in our nightstands. I refer to it as "mutually assured destruction". :)

OK - so how often should I oil the pivot pin on the safety? Rounds fired, months holstered, or confirmed Taco kills? :D

Some advocate for every 10k rounds fired. Others insist on every 5k. Sending in an oil sample for analysis is always advisable.
