I personally would not put a brand new transmission in a truck with 113k miles unless there was no other option or I got a really good deal on one. I would look into either a used one or repairing my current one. Before I did anything, I would find out more information about the state of my current one. It's not entirely clear what "seizing" means in this context.

while your transmission could indeed be shot (sounds like it ran without oil) it could also be any number of sensors. i would start there. the shift solenoid valve sounds like it could be the issue. also make sure the transmission is full of oil

As far catalytic converters, they can be bought from the aftermarket guys for half that. They work fine no codes.

Don’t forget driving through a lake in a brand new truck and getting it stuck for over an hour in the middle, then just drying it out and act like nothing happened

Too many variables in play here . I agree with the guys . Get a second opinion . 40 years rebuilding transmissions and I have never seen a transmission seize up .
Its not uncommon for dealerships to use terminology like this mind you .
I also noticed the OP is female .

It's not likely the trans is bad, but more likely a bad solenoid.

Transmissions don't usually seize up etc. I think this Taco was abused terribly from the previous owner and that is why he got rid of it. I personally would not buy a used 4x4 unless just for plowing or work truck around the estate or farm not for daily driving.just saying.

I've known several folks who sell cars tell me that Carfax is useless.

Thanks for the advice. I was of course always going to get a second opinion. The only reason I ever went to a dealer was to see if they’d work with me on the warranty. I found a reputable transmission shop in my area and I’ll bring it to them for an assessment and go from there. Appreciate all the good ideas - and yup, I am female. I don’t work on my own truck but I do know when a dealer is giving me the ladee upcharge. Maybe I should have been more clear that I would never pay them without a second opinion.

Thanks! 98372 is nearby. This feels like a reasonable option, I have a couple buddies who have replaced transmissions and offered to help.

Here are a few; that 700 dollar, 47,000 mile unit is probably a good deal even if you have to pay shipping. Ask about the warranty, like I said LKQ will sell you an extended warranty.Screenshot 2023-01-08 9.34.50 PM.jpg

dont worry, most of the men who take their trucks to the dealership get the ladee upcharge also.

16' year is the first year production of the truck generation. First few years are problematic for any vehicle redesign.

I thought he mentioned the female angle to suggest that maybe the dealer was trying to take advantage of her because of that fact.

If you do replace it I’d be interested in the core to make a oversized trans pan . Let me know

Makes sense, I can buy that, but it is a pitiful thing to do if true.

agree. If you know @gearcruncher his only bone in this fight is to provide support and truth - not to screw anyone over regardless on him or her...
