Nah, stick around in this one.
Not like it will amount to much any ways.

    I don’t have normal threads……
I don’t even know how I end up in some of the ones I reply too…..

more speeds equals more power and fuel savings, and competing with other brands.
The ZF 8speed that’s been around a while is fantastic.
    There may be decent 10speeds.

5speed can be reliable (Toyota, Mercedes) or not reliable (Audi/Porsche 01V)
    Better than that being 6MT.

in an Audi the ZF 8spd is better than the old 01V. So is their 6AT in the B7. Regardless of fuel economy.

whatever OP bought whether good or bad was his personal choice.

you are right the windows and door handles accelerate quickly to broken condition while people accelerate their feet to nearby Starbucks to sit an hour while it charges

Brave - going to HD on a "Friday" night....:p

Actually on a serious note for once for me on this, after coming off 30 years of manuals and literally only three individual times in all that driving an AT, I agree this taco AT is "interesting". Not bad, and even very smooth when not completely mashing it. I agree you have to learn it, but I am also grateful of the S shift and even more the ECT. Many other cars I've seen don't have any way to adjust things. Some minor driver input at startup and it's fun to point and press the gas.

The truck will adapt to your driving style. I admit that I prefer the 5 speed automatic in the Gen 2 and 4 Runners but I do not hate the 6 speed auto. Automatics should have 3 speeds plus an overdrive and nothing else.

At the end of the day, you spent a large sum of money and now you're upset that your expectations aren't fulfilled. You really only have yourself to blame. Toyota didn't make you buy their truck. You could've waited until a test drive was available. Maybe looked around to rent one for a weekend... If I wasn't bored at work I wouldn't even bother adding to this pile, lol. Trade it in and put the money towards a 1st gen

Just like Apple waiting to put previous gen ICs in their products, Toyota takes the safe route and is often a generation late to changing their technology.

It's not the transmission as much as the engine that is weak until you get it up to about 4000 rpm. You have to drive it like you stole it otherwise the transmission keeps upshifting before the engine is getting the RPM's it needs.

And before you knock the Ridgeline, they have about 50% more payload than a typical Tacoma.

Simmer down. These are learning type transmissions. My 2020 was wonky for the first 1200 miles before it started shifting normal just like any automatic I've ever had. Today it's the most precise, smoothest transmission owned. Just give yourself some time for it to learn your driving habits using the transmission D mode only....it's what I was told when I first bought the truck, and took it home. Avoid the other modes at all costs.

I'm tryyyyinggg.... I'm only one guy and this type of snarky posting is all new to me. Before this I spent my time helping wayward cats at the pound find new homes in climate controlled tree forts.
