I bought my 2017 Brand new without driving any Gen of Tacoma. I sat as a passenger with a past GF in her 1st Gen she bought new and sat in the passenger seat for 30 seconds in my chain-smoking friend's 2016 3rd Gen in late 2016.

If you drive it below 3000rpms, you are causing the situation. This transmission is excellent, the engine is excellent. The truck learns your driving style. Do not low lug rev with this high revving variable valve timing V6 that Loves to run into 6500 rpms.

Use ECT. Use S-Mode. Tune nor no tune, your call. I have the newest OV tune and it's excellent.

Write your congressman. The only reason the vehicle comes neutered from the factory is because of the strict regulatory environment. Go down under and drive a Hilux (Tacoma equivalent). Whistlin Diesel set out to destroy one and commented that it is probably one of the toughest vehicles he has ever tried to mess up. Toyota can make a tough, almost bomb proof vehicle. So why don't they? The crushing regulations they have to comply with in order to sell vehicles in the US.

If you want to see change, do something more than preach to this choir. I am fully in agreement with your sentiment, but you need to go deeper to get to root cause. If you really want to get angry, put some BFG KO2s on your rig, add some extra weight (skids and a winch + bed rack), put a roof top tent on that bed rack and tow an off road travel trailer weighing 3500# in 50 mile headwinds through the Wyoming mountains. Ask me how that experience was. :annoyed: (It actually wasn't that bad - just shit mileage and I was lucky if I could go into S4 b/c I manage expectations).

My first car was a 1981 Mazda GLC with stick so can't gripe bout the transmission, it served me well in my early years of driving until I blew the engine "learning" about driving off road....RIP GLC

It’s not the transmission. It’s the program that decides for you when the gears are going to change up or down. It can be made right very easily for a few bucks. Worth looking into to make your investment a pleasure to drive. :)

    back to bone stock.
Mine seems to be perfectly fine. It’s different from my 2006, but it isn’t offensive.

    It isn't a problem!
I was just joking with you.

Of course had OP used some common sense to begin with - this thread wouldn't exist!
