Should dealership check rings/valves when replacing head gasket?

    Laser - just curious, how many miles on this engine? Did the engine overheat prior to needing the head gasket job? I didn't see this info in re-reading the thread. Sorry if I missed something

    I'm only barking up this tree because I remember back in the day, Honda's would come in with this scenario:
    -Engine overheaded
    -Tech would sell a headgasket job WITHOUT doing a compression and leakdown test first, then we would create an oil burner after the job was completed and have a pissed off customer. The theory being that now the engine is sealed up better (more compression), rings were weakened from the overheating and oil going past them.
    -Only choice at that point was to re-ring the engine.
