Shopping for a new truck and would like some of the options (ie heated seats, etc) that are unfortunately saddled with the moonroof option. I don't need a moonroof but if it doesn't leak, I'm OK with it. Should I avoid it assuming it'll leak at some point or do they have the leaking issues resolved by now?

    Thanks!

Mine is leak free and the one on my old 2005 Corolla was leak free. Stock ones seem to be pretty good. It's the aftermarket ones that can be trouble.

My 17’ came with the moonroof which I didn’t want but had no choice because it was part of the preminium package. Had the truck since July of 17 no issues with any leaks it’s been flawless to date. I just keep the shade thing closed and forget it’s even there.

I have read thousands of posts here over the past few years. There have been several Toyota problems, many owner self inflicted problems but I cannot remember anyone complaining of a leaking sunroof. Mine didn't leak, my Tundra does not leak, my wife's Honda nor my Son's Subaru or My daughter's Tundra or my Son in Law's 4Runner or my neigh... I'll stop there.

Definitely going to leak like it’s raining in there.

Never had a problem. Just have to make sure the drains get cleaned out every once in a while.

Never had a problem with sunroofs leaking including my '18 TRD Sport. More "Urban Myth" than reality.

Got one on my '17 Limited. Used it for the first time today! Such a waste of $$$

Guy who bought my running boards has a sunroof. It does equal leas headroom having the sun roof oddly enough.

Put 150,000 miles on my ‘02 4Runner and never had a problem with the sunroof. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a car without a sunroof- I have mine open pretty much whenever it’s not raining.

No leaks with mine but I wish I didn’t have it. I never use it and I have a rattle in the headliner behind it that the dealer said would be a full day job to check out, basically blowing me off.

One of the reasons I chose the Tacoma was the sunroof. I love them.

The only time I can remember a sun roof leaking was when my friend had one put into their car. Usually the aftermarket ones leak but the factory ones are pretty good.

    All the things!
Of all of the leaking issues on TW (rear diff, 3rd brake light, main seals, head gasket, CV boots, heater core... etc) moon-roofs have not been one of them. Unless they were left open by accident.

The only issue I've seen on TW with moon-roofs were a couple cases of them "randomly" shattering, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that it was a rock getting kicked up on the highway. Still, a rather freak occurrence based on the numbers.

Mine has been perfect with no leaks but there are times I wish I had more headroom. I'm only 6 feet tall and the bill of my hat touches the roof sometimes. I have to recline way back to avoid this.

My 2019 TRDOR may have issues, but a leaky sunroof ain’t one of them.

Agreed that if you're over 6 foot you should probably avoid it due to the loss of headroom.
