Should I be worried about 4oz of balance weight?

Got new tires today on some used 2nd gen alloys I picked up. They said one of the rims was warped/bent and they needed 4oz of weight to balance it. Is that anything to be worried about? It felt like it may still be out of balance on the highway on the way home (some vibration from rear). I’m going to go back and ask for a re-balance, but wondering if I should be looking for a new rim or if I can roll with 4oz and be fine?

Sometimes they can rotate the tire 180 degrees on the rim, then re-balance, and it will make it better. If they were in a hurry, I doubt they tried it. 4 oz isn't terrible though, not sure what load range your tires are.

If you are in New Mexico, or West Texas, I have some 2nd gen alloys that you can have.

That makes me feel a little better, they may have been in a rush, it was close to the end of the day. They’re standard load range cooper AT3 4S (245/75/16)

If they say they balance everything, and it's still causing vibration, something needs done. I've had some slight outer rim bends not cause vibration but this is on a car with track friendly amounts of camber -2.5.

They should probably take the tire off the wheel and really assess the bends/damage. I believe there's a process that they can do on certain balancing machines and it will say how out of round the wheel is. If it's within a certain range, it can POSSIBLY balance out with weights but this should be determined BEFORE mounting the tire up. If out of range, they should turn you away to a repair shop.

Maybe to save time, but not necessarily money, check and see if some more of the same wheel are avail used. maybe get lucky and get a solo wheel.

Thanks I’ll ask if they can put the wheel on the balancer without the tire to see how out of round it is and ask them to rebalance the wheel it it’s within spec/range. I’ve started to look on here and local CL for 1-2 used wheels (2nd gen 16” alloy). Like you said 1-2 wheels rather than a whole set would be ideal

They wont re-balance just the wheel. If the wheel is within safety specs for roundness and balance, they can put the tire on and balance the setup with weights.

remember, balancing anything bent with weights is just a band-aid. It's only meant to make you not feel it in the cabin and also create less vibration over all.
