No, a lot of people test drove them and were told that after some magical transmission 'learning period' the truck would suddenly perform better.

Doesn't really explain why people would buy a vehicle they find has "ponderous steering" akin to a "pontoon boat". Just sayin'.

I purchased my automatic 2016 V6 OR with 7,000 mi in November 2016 and now has 13,000 mi. I haven't experienced any issues with it. Does it downshift while in cruise control? Sure, when there's an incline but that's expected. It's a heavy ass truck with a small engine. I've noticed the majority of members that complain about their trucks have modified their trucks by installing a lift kit to fit their 80 pound tires on it and leave everything else stock. If you have 7 days to try it out, then do just that and come up with your own conclusion.

Yeah, I guess so. What's your point? Many people have as that seems to be the standard sales pitch with this crappy powertrain.

Because while I don't like the overall handling, I do appreciate their reliability. Why, am I not allowed to complain about it? Is this a safe space for fans only?

Besides sales people, you also have that same type here that say after some magical time it will improve or it is just flawless. Plus 76% of new Tacoma buyers are previous Tacoma owners that probably had great experiences in the past and figure they will have the same experience and give it the benefit of the doubt.

Would you like to have a side-bar discussion about "safe space"?

I go back to my point, why would you buy a vehicle that you drove and did not like?

What part of reliability and what we were told by the dealer didn't you understand?

So you bought a vehicle you didn't like for those two reasons? Then you should enjoy it. LOL

That's like marrying a fat girl you don't like because she's faithful and says she'll lose the weight.

Didn't even think about this. You see it all the time in AutoTrader... big fully loaded trucks with all the options for sale.

    Whole bunch of shit! $$$
Makes you wonder how the "assholes" got the loans in the first place, I blame predatory lending practices with interest rates of 19.99+% and Russia of course, because the TV "news" said it is true.

Nope, this thread is not a "safe place" for fan boys.... that would be over in the Haiku thread!

What you bought a pick up truck and don't like the "handling" ??

    Wait.... thinking..... does not compute.

Maybe a Honda would handle a little better...or... wait for it ...... put on a different suspension on your truck and make it to your liking, like just a few folks around these parts have done!

People wanna ride around like they are sitting on the couch in front of the TV should NOT buy a pickup truck, just an observation.

Or, one could argue that the handling, powertrain and overall design of previous gens - of which I've owned 5 - were superior to the 3rd gen (and I'm obviously not the only one who feels this way on these forums) had something to do with the decision to purchase the 3rd gen regardless of the flaws that were inherent in it's design.

Believe me, I won't be fooled again.
