OP, please update this thread at the +6 month, +1 year, +3 year, etc. intervals. Will be interesting to hear your experience w/ the truck over time, whether positive or negative.

Good luck. I personally would have passed, too many miles, but there are ones with 400k.
I'm surprised you could not find one with less miles around that price.

Depending on the work many company vehicles sit idling for hours daily which isn’t taken into account in the mileage but also something to consider.

Best of luck to you, and enjoy your truck.

FWIW, I have a 2010 Camry SE, 4 cylinder. It just turned 196k. I drive it hard, always have, but I've also maintained it at recommended intervals. It runs perfectly, and other than having to replace the right rear hub/bearing 3 times, has only required maintenance/wear and tear items. I've done loaded struts once, full exhaust with cats at about 170k. Those were really the only 2 expensive maintenance items. Everything else has been fluids/filters/tires/brakes, along with stabilizer bar bushings and links. It's a great car, and it's what led me to purchase my new Tacoma.

Sounds like the accountants had it on the books for that much... stubborn to make their jobs easier. Employees were their best bet to get some $$ for it... I wonder how much it would get in the market.

At that mileage, it should have been written off!

OP know the truck, so likely gets a bit of comfort there. For others - a high mileage company vehicle is not attractive. I'd be tempted at a handful of $k not more...

That was my thought at first, but then I realized something. A company that is buying a TRD as their delivery runner is probably not putting a lot of thought into asset management in the first place.

Without running the math, I would think that turning a minimally optioned vehicle at half the miles would run a lower cost of depreciation. It might even be worth crunching the numbers on doubling the fleet so that you can turn them every 5 years at lower miles.

But then again, if they can get someone to buy this at $12 and net a 4k depreciation/year figure, I'd say they came out remarkably ahead.

I totally hear you but we have been meticulous about it and I have most of the documentation for it. I feel good about that. I think if I didn't, I would definitely not be considering this. Everyone is telling me, at the $11k, this is a good deal. I am agreeing and about to pull the trigger. Appreicate your input though.

I've looked. Seems like $15k is as close as I can find, and that's pushing 200k anyway and without the inside knowledge that I have on this truck.

My understanding is they used Kelly Blue Book comps mostly.

Its not a debate about whether the truck is valued less or more than the asking price, according to the rest of the market. Its a debate, or a gamble, about whether or not the truck will last X-amount of miles/time for you to get your ROI back out of it, without having to invest more resources into it to achieve that, ultimately turning your "good investment" into a "bad investment." If you don't have the time/money to invest into the truck, or into a new vehicle when the tacoma craps the bed, you may look back on this purchase and be filled with regret. Or it may run for hundreds of thousands of miles more and be one of the best purchases you've made, no regrets. Its just a gamble, thats all anyone is saying. With the little info you've given us, we're concerned that stats aren't on your side with this one though. But, thats why its a gamble. High risk/high-reward.

Edit: FWIW, KBB shows a 2017 DCSB TRD Sport 4x4 w/ 251k miles in my particular area @ $10-13k in fair condition. Considering you plan to drop another $2k+ at your mechanic according to his estimates, you're not getting any "too good to pass up" types of deals. You're just relieving your company of a burden they'll have to otherwise deal with, and they're making coin on it at your expense. I wish the best of luck to you man, and truthfully hope it pans out well for you.

Thanks for your input and I hear you and understand and am heads up about this being the 'gamble.' I'm generally risk averse but when weighing all of the pros and cons the risk seems worth it to me based on my needs. Life is pretty busy for me but I do foresee myself being able to invest time when needed and can afford the basic maintenance costs on it when i can't do them myself (have always done oil myself but not much beyond that. I won't likely be changing the serpentine belt but I will be doing the cabin filter and lights that are needed. I'll hire out for the transfer case and the transmission flush. I'm not sure I'll deal with the airbag thing without a quote.)
I've tried to give as much info as I could to help inform everyone but i do suppose there's things that are hard to share with the internet that do put me as ease with the gamble more, but your point is understood and I'll try to report back, hopefully over the years ahead.

If not you, someone else will take the gamble on it. As long as you can feel content with the outcome, good or bad, thats all that really matters. Hopefully it pans out. As for the trans flush, I'm most definitely no expert, but I'd recommend checking through those maintenance logs and seeing if/when the transmission was serviced before. Maybe consult others about what you should do with it, and at what interval, if its been serviced before. I've always heard you can do more damage than good if you do a drain or flush on a really high mileage vehicle that hasn't previously had the fluid done before.

Thanks for the info on the trans flush. I will scrutinize those records and ask my mechanic about it before the work is done. Unfortunately, the dealership we've been bringing it to for the last couple of years doesn't update the carfax stuff on it so my mechanic was blind to some of what was done and I will have to look through receipts.
There are definitely others internally that are interested and I know they would get their $12.5 on the open market, if not more.
