whatsup everyone, I need some opinions. Here's my situation, I currently own a RAV4, I have been wanting/needing a truck for a while now, I resorted to the rav cause that's all I could afford at the time. When I purchased the rav, I traded in a corolla that I still owed on and had to roll over to the rav, that was dumb, cause I'm stuck in the rav more than what it's worth. I didn't work for a dealership then, so clearly didn't get a good deal at all..Now I work for a car dealership, and a super clean one owner Tacoma is available, 120k miles and is 17grand. My guys are willing to give me 10.3 grand for trade in and will roll over the remaining to the Tacoma. I pay 370 a mo for my rav, which is a 2011 4cyl with 80k miles..(ya I know that's insane).. I can get the Tacoma for 410 a mo with 500 down for another 6 yrs finance.. (I have 3 left with the rav).. opinions? suggestions? Here's a pic of the taco, And plz don't bust my balls too much about this, lol I am getting torn up enough at my dealership. Thanks and hope to hear back from someone!

If it's what you need I say go for it, I do a lot of home improvement around the house so long bed is a must for me, I can't justify setting an 8 ft long sheet of drywall in a short bed though. In retrospect I should've held out for a double cab long bed. I bought my Taco at 130k miles on it and it was 9 years old (I too financed it for 6 years) I've put new tires, AC blower resistor on it and replaced the u joints....but it runs like a champ!

I was in a similar situation a few years ago(ok maybe not so similar).

I bought my 05 with 119k miles for $15k. It was a 1-owner truck with a detailed maintenance history in excellent condition. I sold my GS350 to buy it(kids don't fit well in a GS350). No regrets. The Tacoma was a great choice. I initially felt like an idiot going from a low mileage, sporty luxury sedan to a high mileage standard issue truck. 2+ years later I'm still happy with my Tacoma and don't regret it.

The struggle is real... I want to trade my taco but I know dealership will probably screw me on a trade, it might be worth looking into first gen tundra if those models interest you. 6 or 8 cylinder and usually 4wd double cabs aren't too hard to find

That's a really good price for that truck. I say go for it. Having something you can use and enjoy makes those payments a little easier. And it's not a rav.

My vote is to stick it out and pay off the Rav4, or at least to the point where you have some equity in it. You're essentially paying 30 grand for a 7 year old truck that will likely have over 200k on the clock by the time the loan is paid. Lots of potentially expensive things could happen by then.

You cant have no in your heart [IMG]

Trick is 2x4s and a sheet of plywood before you install said drywall. Ratchet strap and bob is your uncle....

To the OP. I say do it. The Tacoma likely will hold it's value better than RAV4 years down the line if we look at the history of the gen 1's. $40 more a month toward car payments. Insurance will probably be about same. Gas mileage is going to take a little hit but shouldn't be too terrible depending on how much you drive....Question is If you want/need a truck is it going to be worth an extra $100( payment, fuel cost increase) a month to you?

The pisser about getting the Tacoma is going to be not wanting to spend money modding it.

@dwphoto that's genius! Suddenly a DCSB in my area has become quite appealing! I'll have to run this by the boss! And by boss I mean GF

Man @dwphoto Even though you think I should go for it, you got me thinkin I should just wait it out, cause ur damn right, I'm gona want to mod it, already wana do 3 things.. @SoCalSteve you're totally right, I could wait to pay the rav and hopefully make a little off of it...reality vs desire :/

Just remember, while you will be paying down the principal on your loan each month, the RAV4 will also be depreciating and gaining mileage at the same time. So while your loan might be decreasing, the trade-in value will also be decreasing.

I'd recommend no. Although it's a really good truck ( I have a 2010 dclb), financing for 6 years on a 7 year old truck is crazy. It's going to eventually need things to be replaced so you have to factor that into the next 6 years as well.

I would never recommend financing a vehicle for that long. Honestly, if you have to finance that long, you probably need a cheaper vehicle.

    Payoff the RAV4 first....
