Hello everyone, this is my first thread and I am here because I need your help. Have had quite a few Toyotas in my lifetime but right now I am finishing up with an Explorer Sport Trac with 170k miles. Really want back into a Toyota.

My eye has been on the Tacoma Limited. I really want all of the bells and whistles (leather seats with heat, etc etc). Since I drive my vehicles for a long time, I am willing to pay a little more for all of the options.

What I need help with is this...
I am reading a lot here about some potential changes coming with the Tacoma. Potential for a Hilux too? I am not that familiar with what the new models will mean. After reading through some of the threads I see people say they wished they did not buy one a few months ago and waited for the 2016. I see others say they are glad they have theirs and would not want the new one that may be coming. So, I dont know what to think.

I am at the point now where I am deciding whether I buy one now (and potentially regret that 9 months from now), or put new tires and a few other things into my 2003 Sport Trac and just wait.

What would you do? Asking because you all know more about what is coming than I know.

Thanks in advance for your help///

The only thing to ask is if you want this current body style or the next body style. Go forth from there.

    Welcome to TW.

Not just about the body style. I am fine with the current style. I am hearing the interior may be a lot nicer? The engine better? Still don't know really what is coming. Some of you guys may know better. In the 3rd Generation forum someone said something about a turbo diesel? Something like that can be a difference maker.

...and is the Hilux coming and is that something to hold out for? I saw some videos of the Hilux from other countries and the interior looks like it is a lexus.

There is a lot of talk about what's coming. It'll MOST LIKELY have a better interior, better features and better gas mileage. Literally wait 2 weeks for them to reveal it in Detroit Rock City, see what it's about and decide from there like peepeerunner said.

I personally like the current body style and like customizing things and there so many options available because it's been around. So that's why I'd choose what's out now. However, if you want more luxury on the interior, I think it's safe to say the 2016 will be upgraded in that area. If this discussion was 6 months ago, you'd have a tough decision. But like others have said, wait for the reveal in January and then decide. Best of luck

    Things I need to tow.
I asked myself similar questions a year ago when I bought my '14 Limited. I thought the '15 would be the new model, but it's essentially identical to the '14.

I wanted the Limited because it came with heated, non-fabric, non-animal based, easily cleaned seats (that don't absorb skin or suntan oil) and the higher-end electronics. Some here have no affection for chrome, but aside from the entirely heinous 18" wheels (which I've since replaced with 17" TRD Sport wheels and decent tires), there really isn't enough chrome on the Tacoma Limited to threaten an F-150 or Ram, either of which will make a '58 Buick Limited guffaw openly, and point and stomp it's tires in disbelief. Yes, the Limited costs more than it should considering few of it's features are that unique, but it's also a slower selling model and I got a significant discount as mine had languished on the dealer's lot for several months.

But to answer your question directly, I'd likely wait for the new model to see if some of the small things I wished they'd done on the Limited in the first place have been addressed. Things like fully illuminated switchgear which even my 8-year-old entry level Hyundai Accent has, the attractive instrument cluster from the 4-Runner (or something similar), the more modern six speed automatic the Tundras have and four-wheel disk brakes like even the obsolete Nissan Frontier. None of this is earth shaking or really deal-breaking. And, I'm betting the next Gen Tacoma will have it's share of growing pains what with the likelihood of engine changes and gearing for economy that's the emphasis everywhere now.

All of this is moot for me anyway as I'm too old to save up for another truck and the '14 I have will last as long as I do. I leave the distant future (and likely 4th gen Tacoma) to the younger generation. Just stay strong and never give up!

I debated the same thing and went with a 15 limited. I really like the look of the current model. I also know every new generation has problems and it will take a year or two to shake them out. The 15 is well documented and most issues have been identified and resolved. I decided to go with the proven, long lived, reliable model rather then hope for more in the next generation. While I would like all the things we hope for in the 16, my 15 is rock solid and the limited package gives me what I wanted. I am happy with my choice. After January dealers may be more willing to deal to start clearing out 15's so either way wait till January, but I would still go with a 15. Love my limited 4x4 DCLB.

Agree to wait two weeks and see what the announcement is. Then, hopefully they will release specifics as to what this new version will entail (available options, etc).

To the guys who bought the 2015 Limited, were the dealers willing to "deal"? The vibe I am getting is that since there are so few Limited Tacomas available out there, that they go out the door within a few days of arrival at the dealer. So, they do not need to offer much of a discount. Thoughts?

8 days for reveal, but a long wait for it to arrive at your dealer. I bought a 2015 because it's a known entity. I like the looks, the availability of aftermarket accessories etc.

People have been bitching about illuminated switches since 2005.. It would surprise me if toyota actually did on the 2016.

I would wait until after the auto show. If you like the 2016 better then wait. If you don't like it dealers will likely be more willing to deal on 2015's because most will be waiting for the new truck to come out. I know a few guys who got ridiculous deals on 2014 Mustangs for example. I've had numerous first-year Toyota's over the years and have never had any issues with any of them. First year BMW's on the other hand... what a nightmare.

I would wait until the 12th, see what the 2016 looks like and if its any good then make your decision at that time.

ok so NOW that we have seen what the 2016 is all about, what do you think? I would be buying a Limited regardless as to whether it is a 2015 or 2016.

If you can wait until later this fall and are ok spending about 5% more in price for the advanced tech, then go for it. All depends on what you want ultimately out of a vehicle.

Id say at least 5% and no special deals cause fanboys will be out in full swing to have the latest and greatest. lol.

If you want ALL the bells and whistles. Go 2016 Limited. Make it a 4x4 and call it a day.
