I currently own a 2007 Nissan titan 4x4, I'm seriously considering a 4wd access cab 4 cylinder 5 speed.Titan has been great but mpg suck. I'm moving to Colorado and just built a house west of Colorado Springs at 8500 ft. Will the 4 cylinder work. I won't tow or haul with it and will be used mostly for hunting and fishing trips. Whats your thoughts?

    :wave:Welcome to tacomaworld.
I have same model,(2005) sr5,4cyl,5spd with leer cap and oversized tires. I have no desire to have a 6 cyl. & I don't need a ton of take off power.:curls:
But in all Honestly..Mpg may be better with the 6's.. due to the motor hauling truck weight with less effort... :notsure:but other members may have payed more attention to Mpg.

I have a 2014 single cab with the same guts, I haven't been that high in elevation (been maybe 3000 ft to 4000 ft) but the truck does fine. I have over sized tires and about 400lbs of goodies on the truck. As long as you don't need to get anywhere fast, it will get you where you need to be. The 4 cyl is a really reliable motor as well, and when paired with the manual, you can't go wrong.

So my answer would be yes, go for it.

Thanks for info guys. I don't drive fast I take my time (hell my brothers wont let me drive anywhere cuz they say I drive like a grandma) MPG has to be better in the Tacoma 4 versus the Titan. I can get the 2017 access cab 4 bangar manual with utility pkg for 23675 + 199 doc fee (has to be ordered tho) I'm supposed to be at dealer Saturday to test drive a few and order if I like em. Problem is there isn't much in the way of steep hills in the KC area.

Steep hills are fine, you just have to drop the gear into 3rd to maintain speed.

Mine is a 4 banger, 5-speed, 4wd access cab with a shell. Filled it with camping gear and ran all over Colorado last year and averaged 25 mpg. It went everywhere I pointed it with no problems. I think you would be happy with one.

I've never had the V6 so I may be wrong here. The 2.7L in my opinion is all you really "need" to drive around and haul/tow up to around 3000lbs. It may scream a bit under load in the western mountains (probably even a bit here in Pa). But the way I see it is the V6 is really only better if your trying to turn Giant mud grips. I believe the springs and frames are the same on the v6 vs. the 2.7 so even if your towing with it I really wouldn't want to feel how sketchy it would be towing to the v6's capacity. Gas mpg. is about the same in the newer engines but I like the 4 bangers. If your trying to get the 5 speed in the 2017's you may need cash to special order one though. unless you happen to have a better dealer than those around here.

Thanks for info guys. I'm ordering my TACO on Saturday. Any TACO for 300 under invoice with 500 down to order. 23657 plus 199 fee for 4x4 acess cab 4 banger with manual.

8500 Feet? Buy something with a Turbo, a N/A 4 banger 4x4 pickup will be gasping for air and will get horrid fuel mileage. Look at the 2.7 TT Ford pickup before a 4 banger Taco if you're going to live in the clouds.

If you HAVE to have a Taco, get the 6, since engines are nothing but glorified air pumps, less air means lower power and it's not like the Taco is a powerhouse in the first place.

I would lay money a full size Ford 2.7 TT would get better fuel economy then a 4 banger Taco in your circumstances while giving you what, 150-200 extra HP?

Yeah before you order i would go to a different dealer and test drive the shit out of their 2.7's.

I thought about that but even with the employee price on those its well into the 30s and I'm not sure of the reliability long term. My brother has the 3.5 and its nice but again just not sure of reliability for the long run.

I've got the same setup, and I love it, but I'm calling bs on your mpg claims. In my experience, 24 or 25 mpg is only attainable in the very best case scenarios- flat terrain, light load, low elevation, careful frugal driving. With a cap, full of gear, at elevation in Colorado? No way, not realistic at all.

If the op is worried about power loss he could always add some performance parts like a high flow air intake and LCE headers from URD to gain some of it back for a lot less then the cost of a V6

I live outside of Denver and drive up into the mountains all the time. I have a shell, and on summer fuel get 24+ mpg with my 4 banger 5 speed.

Just west of Colorado Springs? If you live in Woodland Park, I would not consider the 4 cyl.

Same. 5 speed helps with this, engine braking (and not driving like a dumbass) is your friend.
