I have a 2019 Ram 1500 and just recently bought a 2022 cx 30. Awesome little car but sits low for me{ im 6'5 and have a bad back) I always wanted a tacoma 4 cylinder and figure it would be great for running around the countryside here in NW Missouri. Anyway im just a little leery based on some of the issues i see on the forums like frame rust, driveline vibrations etc. Im not a speed demon, dont tow just want a truck to put my fishing poles in or throw a deer in. Most roads around here are 60 mph or less. Im retired and it would most likely be my last truck providing its as reliable as the old Tacomas!

You might be too big for a Tacoma.

    Go sit in one first.

I have the same truck you want and it’s pretty decent for the money.

A tacoma would suit your needs perfectly. driveline vibrations don't often on an unmolested truck and rust can be held at bay with a fluid film or krown treatment.

EDIT: just saw you posted that you fit fine. In that case give one a test drive but it should fit you well then

Then the only other thing you should worry about is the suspension is on the stiff side if unloaded and it may hammer your back a bit on bad highways and roads.

it’s really hard to beat the value for the utility package 4x4 at a little over $28,000.

The only thing I would really want would be a locking rear differential.

    I’m 6’ 1” and fit fine, 2nd Gen 2.7. If you plan on towing I’d get a V6.

Definitely get some seat jackers to raise the front of the seat up to give leg support..it's seriously a must have..the 2.7L is great once you get pass the 1500 to 2k miles it takes for the transmission to learn your driving style..don't be shy with the pedal input..it likes 3500 to 4500 rpms..

The only thing that really bothers my back is the getting in and out of the vehicle which is the reason im thinking of getting rid of the cx 30 which i love and getting the Tacoma. I test drove one a couple of weeks ago for about 20 min minutes and liked it. Like i said my only concerns are some of the issues ive read here on Tacma forums. Last thing i want is a truck that vibrates like crazy when coming to stop or that rusts out in three yrs. Ive read about crown but also saw where its only 60% effective. Here in NW Missouri they use a lot of salt.

Krown and fluid film are very well known here in Wisconsin. Just the other day at my dealership there was a guy with his first gen tundra that he had sprayed every year since he bought new and it looks fantastic. Almost everyone here that lives in salt belt and is proactive about taking care of their vehicles recommends one or the other. Also the driveline vibes usually only happen when the truck gets lifted with big tires.

I fit in my Tacoma just fine, but I would have to say it's the most compact and confined vehicle interior I have sat in, it's a regular cab, but the seating is the same, the pedals are the same. I don't know if I could drive the truck for more than an hour with out going crazy. That has not been a problem yet.

The Tacoma would be for driving around here locally for the most part. I will use my Ram 1500 for long distance/ highway driving.

Iv e heard different views on highway driving with the 4 cylinder. Whats everyones take on driving the 2.7 on long distance trips. I go out to Colorado each yr for fishing in spring and hunting in the fall.

Stock the trucks ride decent, get good mpg(especially with a manual) and have okay power. It all becomes an issue when you mod em out. Mine didn’t vibrate till I lifted it. If you keep it stock I think you’ll enjoy it. But also realistically I’m 5’9 can can’t see a 6’5 person fitting in it

I have a DCSB 2.7L so it's 2wd unfortunately but has the bigger factory rims / tires..I mentioned the higher rpms as more to say it does like higher rpms the 2TR-FE and the fact your going to need them to pass anything..the 6 speed automatic transmission seems to level out around 2k rpm regardless of your speed..such as 1800 to 2200rpm / 60 to 80mph..on the highway its easy to get low to mid 20s mpg while going 70 to 80mph..it's the short trip to the corner gas station that kills your gas mileage..So the DOT / Toyota limits the 2TR-FE towing capacity to 3500lbs although outside the USA similar platforms are 2500kg as the 2TR-FE has but 80lbs of less torque then the V6 models but shares exactly the same frame, transmission, suspension, brakes , rear end etc..literally the only mechanical difference is the actual engine between them.. I've towed 4200lbs 90 miles at 70 mph without any problems.. the V6 is rated for 6500 lbs but only has 80 lbs of more torque..80 lbs of torque difference isn't a 3000 lb towing difference in my opinion..but I'm not an engineer or DOT safety officer either so..

No, some of these trucks have the 30-10 mph deceleration vibes brand new off the lot. I've had 2 that do it

I’ve been to and back from Tahoe, it does fine at high elevation. I have no problem with much faster highway speeds than you are needing because traffic here moves super fast. It is not a slow vehicle. And any comfort issues are going to be across the entire Tacoma line.
