Maybe I have a good dealership and I've used the same service writer for about 15 years. They've always made right anything wrong with my vehicles. Hell they've replaced things out of warranty that I didn't even know was bad and then told me when I picked it up.

I work at a dealership & trust me some jobs you rather not do even if you are getting paid for it LOL. The initial approval of some warranty work starts at the dealer level. Dealership can warranty whatever they want to. Now getting paid for it is a different story.

Well right, that's what I meant. A dealer is free to warranty out of pocket if he chooses, but there's not that many valid reasons to do that. The real problem is corporate, and it became very obvious to me when my dealer showed me their internal bill that showed Toyota sticking them with half the bill for a warranty job that wasn't their fault and should have been entirely Toyota Corporate's responsibility. So I do now understand why Toyota dealers are often reluctant to dive into controversial, expensive repairs.

There's a fundamental difference between the factory warranty and an extended warranty: the former is an actual product warranty; the latter is a form of insurance.

Each has a different mission and a different way of managing customers and profits. The word "warranty" is there precisely to make people think that that's what it is, but it really ain't.

Yeah, I buy Toyota's for their reliability, but they ain't perfect. When my Tundra (under warranty) wouldn't unlock with the remote and new batteries didn't fix it, I went to the dealer. Turned out to be an electronic box under the drivers seat that controls lots of stuff. Replaced under warranty, but that box alone was like $1800, not including diagnostics and labor. Even if you can fix it yourself, you gotta buy the OEM toyota par

Moral of this story, I bought a 8yr/75,000 (not our daily driver) warranty from Wolverine on my used 2WD 2017 for $625. When it kicks in after my CPO runs out, that is 4 years for $625. $150 a year is pretty cheap insurance in my book, even if I never use it.

True. Knowing the dealer and the service staff goes a long way. But not everyone has that privilege.

My Jeep dealer of 10 years in California was like that: all I had to do was drop off the keys and they took care of everything. Now that I relocated the only Jeep dealer in town sucks. They wouldn’t honor warranty work because I hadn’t bought the Jeep there.

Ideally, these things should work the same regardless of what dealership you go to, what trim level you bought, who you happen to know at that dealership, etc. But it doesn’t, unfortunately.

so if i was interested in getting an EW, who do i contact online? I bought a lifetime for my jeep through a dealer in Iowa- it's a legit MOPAR lifetime warranty on just about everything. is there an equivalent for toyota vehicles?

I would suggest googling your exact thread title and see what financial experts say. Anyone that’s financial savvy will say “No”.

I would never buy extended warranty on anything but I got it on my 2018 and I think it was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done and 100% regret wasting the money on it.

Unless something major goes wrong in the next 5 years, but I can’t see that happening.

If your extended warranty hasn't kicked in yet, can't you have them buy it out from you?

You must be new to the site lol. Famous last words as well. Lots of expensive parts go wrong on the third gen Tacoma.

Not sure if thats a thing or not?

I have seen the expensive parts go wrong lists, I just hate spending money haha. I also came from a 2nd gen thats only issue was the joint in the steering shaft going over its 12 yr life, I have good faith in these trucks.

If I had bought the extended warranty in my Srt8 grand Cherokee I’d still have it. But I didn’t and the repairs were adding up this was well under 100k miles too. All the guys I know that bought the extended warranty had theirs covered. I bought the 6 year/75k bumper to bumper on the truck and a life time powertrain. Since I bought them I’ll probably never need them but if I had not then the transmission would have fallen out at 50k. It is a gamble but I regret not buying them for my my Jeep. One day I’ll get a trackhawk WITH the warranty and sell it when it expires.

If you've not made a claim against it, you can get a pro-rated refund for what's left on it. It's also transferable if you sell.

Good to know ! I have used warranty on my emblem due to blemishes in it and it looked bad but the factory warranty would have done the same thing. There was only 3500km on it at the time.
