Are you saying you would still be able to start a turn key truck with a DEAD battery? o_O

What other sorcery is the manual capable of?

I've had my 3rd Gen MT for 5 months and was not even aware of any clunk in neutral???

Just buy the MT and be happy!

Get the manual. It’s awesome. I’m just shy of 90,000 miles on mine.

The MT is great in snow. You have control and it does exactly what you tell it to. No surprise downshifts (the AT will still downshift in S mode, it is just an upshift limiter). ATRAC is the MT version of crawl control and it works very well

I also get 2+ mpg in my MT than my auto ever did.

You make it sound so easy.

Unless you parked it on a hill you’re gonna need a few people to help push. Might as well just ask one of em for a jump...

No hill needed, just a slight slope.

Alarm relay failed in my 1st gen and would not start while at Costco. Rolled her back in reverse, let the clutch out and away I went.

    this and that...
with toyota, toyota oem push button start coupled with manual trans does not work. youll get an error message if you try to kick start the car. i had this combo in my 2018 corolla se prem and while the manual trans brought that anemic platform to life, i wouldnt get it again if manual was only available with push button start. it was way too finicky for my liking. kinda stoked when when i bought this taco and it was turn-key operation, and manual trans to boot.

I got the MT just because it’s more fun to drive. The clutch is light so even in traffic it’s not bad. Keeps you engaged while driving.

For the OP, I am in the U.P. as well and had the same concern as you. I went and test drove one the other day and kept it for an hour of test driving. I did highway, yooper 2 lanes, and gravel.

I found the sound that you hear on the youtube video where the guys puts the camera under the truck to be over-rated IMO. I could hear the same rattle that they all have but I ha

I found the sound that you hear on the youtube video where the guys puts the camera under the truck to probably sound louder because of the camera location, etc. I could hear the same rattle that they all have while coasting in neutral but I had to have the window down to even hear it and to be honest, if I didn't have the window down looking for the sound, I would have never heard the rattle.

    Anyhow, that was my experience.

Also...we have a 4Runner TRD OR with the Crawl Control and have never had to use it while back on the skid trails.

However, word of caution here...If you get a Toyota in the U.P., be prepared to travel to Green Bay to get tires properly mounted and balanced.

This is a good manual. Shifts very smoothly. It isn't a sports car, though if you flog it a bit it is pretty speedy (0-60 in about 7 seconds). You do have to rev it up a bit to get the most out of each gear.

I did a lot of towing last weekend with a 2800-lb dry weight camper. It performed fine, just needed to be in the right gear. Long hills will require 5th or even 4th gear. Don't plan on setting any speed records or getting 20 mpg when towing LOL.

Although they had to dig my '19 out of the snow for me to test drive when I bought it in March, I have not really driven on snow in this vehicle yet. That said, I much prefer a manual in the snow. The ability to control when you shift is very, very helpful. There are really only 2 reasons to consider an auto over MT if you're on the fence--resale will be easier with the auto, and if you have a lot of stop-and-go traffic. Otherwise I prefer rowing through the gears.

Every male in this country needs to own a manual shift vehicle at least once in their life. Just do it!!!

I have owned three and now I’m done.

Not reading the thread, but if your considering a manual, just get one. End of conversation.

I have a 2018 Pro MT and absolutely love it. My last Tacoma was an automatic and this one by far is a lot more fun. I've heard horror stories from the automatic guys with the transmission and have to say the MT doesn't have any of the issues some of them complain about. Here's the thing... if you go for a MT just be aware that it will hinder what model you get as the MT is not available on every build. TRD Sport, Off Road, and Pro are the only 2020 models that I believe offer MT's.

Next would be what do you normally do while driving? If it's checking your phone, eating a Big Mac, or dealing with kids I'd say go with the auto. If you've made good life choices and none of those apply, MT all day long.

    DO IT.
    BUY A MANUAL.
Truck will shift whenever the F you want and not whenever the F Toyota engineers want.

I had a 2017 Auto and it was miserable to drive. I had to get a shift sense pro to make driving bearable.

I have a 2019 MT now and I love the gearing. Feels better and I always feel in control. The clutch is the easiest clutch I have ever felt. I dont think you can stall this truck. The gear box feels weird to me but I'm used to Honda transmissions. The gear box is not butter smooth like a Honda, it feels like a tractor gear box. Reverse gear is terrible when backing up trailers.
