I have the opportunity to buy a 2000 Tacoma with 198K on a 2.7 motor and auto trans. 4WD. This truck is very clean, and has been owned for the last five years by the same person. My question is this......how long will the 2.7 last and should I buy it. The price is $6500. Thank you and your advice is appreciated.

From what I’ve read the 3rz is a better motor motor than 2tr. Seems some of us with 2005+ are having oil consumption issues.
Definitely look at the frame I believe that gen had frame issues in the rear.
Make an acct with Toyota owners see what the vin shows.
Or post a link with vin and someone here will take a look.

I would do it. I bought my truck for 8.5k with 180k on the clock. But I'm in CA and the double cabs are hard to come by.

    lotz o miles

clean does NOT correlate to reliability or longevity

rare for most vehicles to get thru 300k

engine ...... trans & a few ancillary devices may raise issues in the future

    good luck

That's a very decent price for a 200 4WD, if it doesn't have any frame rust that 4 cyl will last you a long time if it only has 198k miles. These can easily go 400k if you take good care of it. I have 213k on mine and its going super strong.
