The market is flooded with used Pros for that exact reason. Apple Car Play, Power seat, etc., saying they got a killer deal on the their trade in but they fail to mention paying sales tax and lic/fees. Not to mention an additional MSRP that went up from previous year. To each their own.

I would think that it would depend on how much you're willing to spend. You're pretty much buying the TRD Pro for the trim and exclusivity (Rarity) as they only released certain colors during specific years of release. I know people that bought either one and ended up modifying and spending some serious money.

Get an Off Road. I find my Pro to be extremely gimmicky.

The limited nature probably helped with the trade in value a bit. For example nationwide there are 245 used pros for sale vs. 1,686 Offroads. That finite supply should help hold value better in most markets.

If your into hardcore wheeling I don’t know why you’d want a new truck. Pinstripes, Dent’s, you’d be better off getting something older to beat up.
There has been some good deals on used pros if you want the interior. A guy was selling his 2018 pro all loaded up for $38G Cdn, another 2019 pro mt for $44G Cdn (33,500 USD).
Just looked and the 2019 is now down to $43G CDN (32,700 USD)

If your just cruising forest service roads and doing moderate stuff then sure a new rig is nice. I'd buy the Offroad.

If it's a keeper get the one you want. You stared with TRD Off Road or TRD Pro so you want the off road options and your leaning mostly towards double cab - short box. If you want the long box only one option OR long box. You are also considering manual transmission which does not have the crawl control or multi terrain select but keeps the rear diff lock. Manual transmission also has lower MPG than automatics, man 17/20 vs auto 18/22 (city/highway). Those back roads are far from highway MPG's. Lastly is the colors availability (if that matters) and the deal you can get on 2019's vs 2020's. Best deals are on 2019 Pros if it is all about the ride on rougher roads. If you want the 2020 changes and like the TRD platter to go and don't expect to do suspension upgrades maybe the Pro is for you. I might have chosen to procure a 2019 Pro if the 2020 OR did not have a Voodoo blue option. Most who have opted for OR preferred the price difference and have plans for additional accessories. Tires, wheels, bed rack, tonneau cover, sliders, roof rack, roof top tent, speakers, light bars, ditch lights, winch, front and rear bumpers, headlights, hood struts, bed management systems, leveling kit, suspension lifts with coil overs, re-gearing, bump stops, brake line extensions, and many more can add up.

There are so much available to make your Tacoma great the way you want it to be. Bottom line is what makes you happy.

My preference is off road with a supercharger, money well spent. :spending:

A 2019 last August. Happy with my purchase too. The suspension is great on and off the road. Zero regret It was built only 2 weeks before I bought it.

This thread has been pretty interesting to read through. I leased a 19 Sport in September. I live in dry desert AZ and went with 2wd because I rarely need 4wd right now plus money is a major issue as a government employee lol.

I’ve been doing the debate already on what to do at the end of the lease...I could keep this truck, do so simple mods and be totally content. I also like the idea of upgrading which will be possible in a couple years. Why not have 4wd I’d I can afford it...makes trips to the snow much easier. I can see why dudes would go Pro over TRD...I personally don’t have 10k cash sitting around to mod an OR with, but I could manage a little higher payment on a Pro. Maybe I’m missing something but it seems a lot easier to finance your mods right into the truck...I get it’s probably not as financially smart but without a 20-30k bank account, it seems like a good option...or am I totally dumb?? anyone ever heard of a dealer letting you mod an OR at the purchase time and working it into the contract? Ive had a couple guys who own off road shops suggest that but I’ve never seen it done...

And I still want a Pro for the Gucci factor alone...I’ll be honest. Hahaha

Most Jeep, Chevy dealers and so on sell new vehicles loaded with aftermarket stuff that is all financed into the purchase. Some Toyota dealers will do the same as well. And yes , it can make it easier on many doing it that way , especially if the dealer will not void the warranty with their aftermarket add ons.
