Luckily I live in Oregon and for once Eco freaks make me happy for my trucks life since they don't use salt here

I'll say the same thing a couple people said earlier, look at the people telling you not to get it, they're all down south or west coast. If you aren't from New England you have a very different view of rust then people who live here. IMO it looks like a pretty good buy for the price, unless you could go up another 4 or 5 thousand dollars I'd get it and be happy.

Take the truck in to be checked. The area on the frame that is the weakpoint for rust is around the converters. If that area is good then go for it ;)

Its simply a waste, if it was my budget I would be a little more concerned..

And yes we see brutal winters and ALOT of salt as well. I live in "Salt" Lake City and when it snows here there is a shitload of salt in the snow from the lake and from those ass hole salt trucks that wrecks our frames yet I still would look elsewhere..

I come from a rust belt, and I can honestly say, that rust makes me a little nervous. That being said, I'd test it with a screw driver, ALL OVER THE PLACE, and if all is well... I'd buy it. I paid $21,300.00 CA for my 05 Sport with 96,xxxkm's on the Odo, last year. The frame was decent on mine though.... That being said, if I could have bought mine for $10,000 and some frame rust, I would have jumped on it.

I don't paint my frames, or coat them with rust encapsulators.... I simply coat mine with oil and grease. It's messy.... but keeps my truck in good shape. I've done every car I've owned for the past 15yrs.... my 1998 4Runner is one of them.... and still looks mint.

You can spray the oil (some use gear oil) with a Schultz gun and a compressor.... and you don't have to worry about getting rust flakes in your face... :D Just put a tarp town, and spray away. If oil is not ideal for you.... take a thick rubber glove, and some multipurpose grease, and smother that frame till it's covered in that greasy, gobby goodness! It will NEVER rust again. :)

Just hate to see you miss out on a good deal man....

I forgot to mention that I did go over it very closely with a screwdriver. The area next to the converters (near rectangular holes) was fine.

Good. Now take it ti toyota and have them do a frame inspection. If they don't find anything then buy the truck :)

Bingo! He accepted $9500. I'm going to see if I can find someone to sandblast and coat it for me. Think somebody will do it for the $500 I just saved?

    ABS sucks.
Mine is an '03 that has had the Toyota Corrosion-Resistant Treatment applied in 2008. Says it carries an EIGHT year warranty from the date it was applied. I'm covered until 2016... You really should take it to a Toyota dealership and have the same done. What town in VT are you in?

Thanks, all for opinions! Stoked! Just got it home and trying to decide between POR 15 and Chassis Saver or pay someone to do these other other approaches - or leave as is and wait for the recall (ummm, yeah). It has an Undercover hard tonneau that it sweet. Anyone know of you can drive with the locks unlocked? Seems like a strong wind could lift it open.

Any thoughts on what a shop might offer for coatings?

I don't know about Burlington personally. But most autobody shops/restoration shops should be able to quote you on a rust removal and coating. Honestly I'd get down in there and get what you can. If the job is looking too hairy then your best bet is taking her in.
