Autonation still has some NEW 2023s in V6 4x4 DCSB. I have a 2023 SR V6 4x4 bought new from a Toyota dealer near me, in December $32,800.

Okay. But I prefer manual transmission, not automatic. I was lucky to buy brand new 2023 TRD OffRoad, June of last year. My Toyota dealer had some manual TRD Tacomas' in stock, no need to special order.

That right there is key, your price range.
If you buy this truck and it has a shit ton of issues, you're gonna be spending well outside your price range. Are you a gambling man?

I agree! To the OP, go someplace else. I went through with this chit awhile back. I was too excited, and too stupid, to be stupid. No “common sense.” I bought a used old piece of chit Toyota Pickup with 3.slow V6, 4x4. Ended up spending plenty money building crap up. Use “common sense!”:p

Apologies. Was more trying to get my point across to the OP… don’t buy a 3 years used truck for the same $ as new.
I agree about manual transmission. I was not in the market until December. What I wanted was access cab plain stock SR V6 4x4 manual. Closest I could find is what I bought. Didn’t want to miss out on getting a new 3rd gen.

There's nothing wrong with used cars...I actually prefer them...especially if they have a couple scratches or dings already, cuz that means I'm not gonna be first one to fuck things up...lol

I bought 2 new tacomas....2001 S-runner and a 2005 X-runner. Had a 2000 poverty package tacoma bought used with like 5K miles on it before that and my current 2016 TRD OR M/T bought used with 100K miles on it for $30K, back in 2022....comparable new trucks listed at $42ish, but all the dealers were tacking on another $9-10K in bullshit markups or extras so I wasn't getting out the door for less than about $55K. I saved $25K, that'll fix a lot of broken shit. To date, I've changed the spark plugs, the oil, and put a new set of bilsteins on it. Also fixed the fucked up rear brakes from the parking brake locking up, but that isn't really specific to a high mileage truck...my 05 did it too. Almost 130K miles on it now I think. I hate the truck, but it's better than the competition so until I find a suitable replacement I'll keep it.

Just bought the wife a 4 runner from Hertz....2023 TRD OR, 25K miles on it, $40K out the door. It's perfect in every way, no dings/dents/scratches/stains...again, saved $15K or so over a new one...which no dealer within 100 miles had in the color she wanted.

Lower interest rates on new often offset or come close to the lower price of used, especially, being only 3 years old. Compare payments and length of term.

    i don't...

what if the OP doesn't want to have to pay to fix the ugly on the '24? i sure don't. $40k in body work after buying a $50k truck sure doesn't sound that appealing to me.

really, 44k on a '21 doesn't sound all that bad. maybe a little high, but if it's anything like me, i average 3k/yr, so it'll fall back down to normal after a few years of ownership.

there's absolutely nothing wrong with buying used. stop making it sound criminal.

Where are new 2023’s left? Nationwide on CarGurus there are 126 4x4’s with the majority being stock photos implying they’re long gone and listed “by mistake”.

Carmax once bought a vehicle from me that no person doing their due diligence would have bought. I didn’t lie about it’s condition but there were some questions they should have asked but didn’t. I would never buy a car from them after that.

I suspect a large number of cars are at Carmax because dealers didn’t want them as trade-ins because they found underlying problems.

I’ve always been suspicious too. I know plenty of people who have sold to them, a quick walk around in the driveway looking for body damage is about it. So that’s what one would be buying. After all they’re paying top dollar, it would reasonable to assume, there’s no resources left in to making any other repairs. It’s just a turn-n-burn model, buyer beware.
