Well there is a sucker born everyday. You could never rip me off with that price. For just 6k more someone could buy a brand spanking new 2012 SR5 V6 Access cab 4x4 with auto. That is one of the reasons I'm buying brand new. I'm going to wait it out for the new engine lineup for the 2013 or 2014 model. If gas rockets up past $5 a gal I will be getting the new fuel efficient 4cyl 5 speed auto 4x4 taco.

Yup it's a common fact here on TW that tacomas hold their value so well that the difference from a new a pre-owned is not much compared to....luxery cars that plumet after a few years. I definitely wouldn't be ripping anyone off in my area though.

one on seattle c-list @ 35,000 mi. its a 2009 4x4 trd off- road mag-grey for 25,100. sport models are bad-ass, off-road models are one step up on the sports. i would look for 2009 and up... study this forumn and you will see why so many want 2009 and newer. Toyota really uped the game and thinned out the competition starting with their 2009 sport and off-road tacomas in my and many forumn member opions.if this is 1-owner, clean title, this is agreat price, maybe get it down to 24,000? factory waaranty is or will be expiring soon, if lucky he may have extended waranty on it, if not then you can shop toy dealerships and pick up one starting @6-700 bucks

So I checked it out some more.. The seller is the second owner. Red flag right there, why are ppl getting rid of this truck with such little millage on it? The truck is 6+ years old now, with New England weather thats a lot of time for it to rust up.. Theres several recalls on this vehicle too.. Idk $19k is a lot of money, I know they hold there value but still... I'm not too concerned with gas mileage. My daily commute is a whopping 12 miles round trip. This is the reason for me to finally get a truck. I've always wanted a Tacoma just wasn't practical till now. I don't plan on towing anything, just want the 4x4 option for summer camping and hauling kayaks and small sailboat.. Would a 4 cylinder handle this? There so much cheaper.. Still waiting to hear back from seller so I can scope out this truck in person... I'll keep yall posted..

Ok so he actually emailed me back as I was writing last post. Going top see the truck at 4pm today.. He says was going to trade it in and has a deal all set up with the stealership.. But he wants to sell privately do to the stealership is going to rob him on the deal... SO maybe I can play that to my advantage.. What kind of $money you think the dealer is going to give for this truck?

Take it somewhere to get inspected. If you are worried about frame rust then have someone who knows what to look for check it out for you.

    UPDATE:

Ok so I got a chance to molest this truck today.. Shes pretty sweet, I few minor scratches, a small ding in the door. An ink spot on the drivers seat, nothing a seat cover wont cure.. But looking pretty good cosmetically for a 6 year old truck.. I took it for a spin, floored it.. Nice power, very quiet, large tires hum a bit on rd surface.

History: seller bought it from Toyota with 20,625 miles on it 2 years ago.. It was a lease that the original owner traded in.. Since then hes put 39,875 miles on it.. Checked the vin on Toyota owners and it had its regular service from the first owner up until 20k miles.. Then this guy got and and only changed the oil every 3k and has never brought it back to the dealer.. He didn't look the mechanical type. He was wearing scrubs when we met.. You think this should be of concern? There is no warranty on it at all. He told me he had it checked out at the dealer to see what he could get a trade for it.. The dealer only offered him $16,250 for the truck..

I think I'm going to offer him $17,000-$17,500 max.. It ran really well he never had trouble with it, loves it in fact.. The gas is killing him.. He was looking into a mini cooper lol... Its got some sweet wranglers on it.. I checked on them and they run $400 a pop.. Nice tires. Nice aftermarket dvd/mp3 player in dash.. Remote starter, which reminds me.. He gave me the keys and I had to turn them all the way, wait for all the lights to go on, then turn the truck over? He said it wont start right up since he installed the remote starter. But it starts every time, but you have to wait a second.. This could indicate some funny electrical problems down the line?

So in conclusion: He probably didn't take the best of care with it. But then again its a Toyota Taco how could he possibly have hurt it in 40k miles.. If I can get for $17,500 with that many miles on it for a TRD sport package I think I will be a happy pappy :)

So, it "seems" he did the maintenance on his own. Did he have any papers to prove it? Does he have the inspection sheet from the dealer when he was thinking of trading it in? My concern would be with the auto start he did himself. I find it strange because in all the starters I've had(all Compustar), I never had to wait for anything. I'm thinking he put in a cheap starter. Just because it looks nice on the outside OP, doesn't mean it's going to look nice on the inside(mechanical, electrical etc). Just because it's a Toyota, doesn't mean somethings can't rear it's ugly head once you buy it from this person. I would suggest for you to take it to a mechanic that should inspect it, don't go to someone the seller suggests. I'm just saying if you don't get it inspected and buy it and something goes wrong. You're pretty much going to up shit creek without a paddle.

This will be the best advice you will get on this thread: Take it to a Toyota dealership and have them do a complete pre-purchase inspection (I believe it's a 100 pt inspection). Most toyota dealerships charge $100, but it will be the best $100 you will spend b/c it allow you to negotiate to a lower price should there be issues. Toyota KNOWS these trucks inside and out and will be able to do a proper computer diagnosis, pull the tires off and inspect the braking system, check for exhaust leaks, 4x4 system, electrical, etc. In other words shit the naked eye won't catch. You will only lose $100, which will probably pay for itself with possibly lowering the price. If it's some major shit you will want to walk away and you will thank me that you didn't end up with a bad deal.

Sounds like a fair price for the mileage and condition it appears to be in.....you may want do a car fax or make sure there is not some bad history like it was submerged in a swamp or totalled in a wreck....
