Lol in terms of looks, this is like arguing about whether vanilla or chocolate is “better”—to each their one. For my truck only my opinion matters and same for you

I'm not sure how you can debate a 127 vs 140 inch wheel base for offroading. That's a pretty objective measure. A shortbed Tacoma already struggles with a bunch of Jeep trails due to the wheelbase (e.g., Rubicon) and a longbed could absolutely not do some as a result.

If you don't offroad I agree with you, though.

I concur - holding out for SB. If my off-roading takes the SB to the brink in terms of angles then I need to stick with that. I was in denial because of truck availability but I know what I need.

I love my DCLB and couldn’t picture ever having a SB. I ran into a similar issue with dealer allocation when I bought my truck. The whole process was a huge PITA and I ended up having to go to a dealership 1200mi away. I did however get the exact truck I wanted at the price I wanted

…and that’s the issue. He’s Texas, which is GST territory. Since they are a regional monopoly, they prefer to sell buttloads of SR, SR5, TSS, or the hilarious TSS Offroad (an SR or SR5 with a sticker, likely not even 4x4). Sout East has SET, which does the same, but has XP and XPS. They at least innovate with “Toyota” accessories they see a demand for.
Shop around, there’s a whole world out there and plenty of dealers who will do the deal over the webs/phone and pick you up at the airport. Sign and drive…

Is yours at stock height? I’m waiting on my DCLB Off-Road to get delivered and my hesitation about the DCLB (besides in-traffic driving and parking garages) were that they often look strange to my eyes. The 6” bed makes them look too low and long. But yours looks great.

    Yeah, stock suspension on mine.

I don’t think they look goofy stock, but specifically I think they look a lot better than the SB when lifted ~2” with 32-33s.

Agreed, for sure. I’m curious to see how my stock DCLB looks when it’s delivered - I thought yours looked great but sometimes I think some of them look a little long and low, like I said. Though then again, sometimes the SB look too compact and tall to me so… lol

I will note I’m running 1.5” wheel spacers in that photo. The little wider wheel stance helps a bit with the skinny/long look.

I don’t have many photos of my truck, but here’s a few more for reference. All are stock suspension and 1.5” wheel spacers.

Oh yeah, I hadn’t noticed - but the wider wheel stance does look really nice. Think that’s what I was really digging about your truck. Though it’s a good looking truck in general for sure.

I mostly want a tad more of an aggressive look to balance out the long skinny body. I’ve been focused on the lift option - I hadn’t even heard of wheel spacers (clearly I’m new to all of this) but I’m spacers might be a good first thing to try. Any downsides to running them? How are they to install? (Again, total beginner here)

Spacers and upsizing the tires one size (aka to a 265/75R16) is a good moderate improvement to the cosmetics.

If you want to run spacers, my main advice is to run only quality ones and IMO that leaves one name: Spider (they’re the blue anodized aluminum ones).

Spacers do have cons, but quality ones will alleviate most of the cons.

The extra wheel studs can round out in their mounts on cheap sets of spacers and this means they turn freely, which makes taking a lug not off nearly impossible as the lug nut and wheel stud spin with each other instead of the wheel stud staying fixed in place.

Wheel spacers also add some wear and tear to ball joints and wheel bearings as it extends the weight bearing point of the wheels outward and that puts more force on those aforementioned components. Think of picking up a bar with a weight on it with one hand. If the weight is near your hand on the bar, it’s easier to pick up. If the weight is one foot out on the bar, it’s much more difficult to get the leverage to lift it. Granted, we’re taking 1.5” not 12” but it does have an effect in the long term.

I do want to note that the leverage issue isn’t a spacer only issue. Folks running wheels with a wider offset than factory face the same increase wear and tear. It’s not going to kill your bearings overnight, but will shorten their life to some measurable extent.

    Then there’s cost.

Pros are really just looks unless you need them for clearance sake.

I apparently haven’t taken a picture of my truck in quite some time. In this photo, the suspension is stock albeit Sport instead of OffRoad. Also, the running boards are using the lowering kit. The tires are 265/65/R17 Nitto TerraGrappler G2 on GST - TSS 17” rims. I’ve posted these changes elsewhere on TW at the time.

13.2". Although its not about the length. It is about how you use it.

OP my input is similar to others here. If you plan to camp in it get the LB. If it is more about hardcore offroading, get the short bed. In fact get the Access Cab Short Bed. I got the DCLB primarily for camping on fireroads and easier trails. I did get a moderate 1.5" lift to give some additional clearance and better handling

I've had the DCLB for about 15 months and have taken it off-road it on easy to mid-moderate trails a half dozen times. It does fine but I am not sure I'd go to strictly moderate trail without concern.
    • Turning radius sucks
    • Hard to maneuver thru tight spots
    • Less breakover angle
Not that it can't be done you just need to be prepared to get a lift and armor and be confident in your skills to take it on serious offroad trails.

Driving onroad is fine, I can make most u-turns without need to do a 3-point turn. Parking in tight spots SUCKS. And I have a decent size garage. It doesn't fit. Too long by 6". Not that I park in the garage but when I first bought it, we went on a vacation and were taking a different vehicle. I wanted to park it in the garage since it was brand new and protect from the vermin out there, but had to leave it in the driveway.

Well folks, I said “fuck it” and got myself a lime green TRD PRO. Arrives in two weeks. I’m over the moon. And I don’t care if folks think it’s ugly. I love it.

I have a 2004 Sunset Orange Pearl Honda Element (vehicle prior to 2021 DCLB) and kept it to let my kids drive and because it is simply fun to drive and unique. People laughed at the Sunset Orange Pearl color then, and still do today, but I friggin' love it. My Element has the added feature of being an ugly box too!

    Own it.

Photo not mine. Just a representation of SOP (Sunset Orange Pearl)

Totally. I think there’s always some cachet with the PRO colors.

Random question. Does anyone know when 2022 production stops and when 2023 production starts? Also, are the PROs usually built toward the back half of the year ??

I don't know exactly when but I believe it is around this time. My understanding of building specific models is they batch them throughout the year. One week they might build just SR5 models, next week only Off Roads, etc.
