Lol maybe when I was young but now I like doing things the right way when I can. Headers to down pipes to bla bla bla to a single out the back in the stock location with the trd chrome tip. It’s no v8 that’s for sure but with the exhaust set up and the supercharger it sounds ok to me. The old Mexican across from me has come old 50s Chevy’s and they are straight piped. All the guys on my street make a little noise though got a cabinetmaker on one side, framer on the other so no one minds the sound of an engine as long as it’s not one of those stupid fart cans. The only one that ever complains is some d-bag that lives down the street but he drives a Tacoma ;). I was a little surprised this afternoon though.

Why would you want to draw even more attention to yourself when you're out driving around? For maybe a couple hp? How old are you?

All i can picture is being behind some riced out Honda on the freeway, listening to that drone.

    Don't be that guy

After six months I couldn't stand my TRD exhaust anymore and dumped it. I just can't imagine the drone and noise of straight pipes on a 60° V6.

For the most part, loud exhausts appeal to the 20-30 somethings who value extra attention, appearances, and vanity without much regard for other people. Some older folks still get a kick out of loud exhausts but not too many... I realize this statement will be received poorly only because it's being made on a pickup truck forum. But I stand by it... call me crusty or whatever you want. So glad I never got into any of the bandwagon mods (e.g. lift, wheels, light bars, exhaust on a mall crawler).

    I doubt that

No muffler = no back pressure on the exhaust valves = burnt exhaust valves. A very expensive fix. The voice of experience.

Not sure about that.. its the tension of the valve springs that closes the valves. Those springs are stiff af.

At most, the exhaust back pressure is only going to be a pound or two, with the mufflers and everything installed

You must live in the city. Most 40 to 60 year old people around me have straight piped diesels. So at every stop light all I hear is diesel clattering and turbo whistle, can't forget about rolling coal either.

So why are you getting pulled over so much if they like your exhaust?

It has nothing to do with springs. Without the back pressure the muffler provides the hot exhaust gas rushes through the gas port fast enough to erode the metal of the valve or valve seat. Typical compression for a gas engine is 9 to 1. That's a lot of hot gas being pushed out at 2,500 RPM.

Still dont agree. The valve damage you're talking about is caused by a lack of cooling.

The only way the valves cool themselves is by giving up heat to the cylinder head (that has the coolant running through it) when they are seated/closed.

Overheating begins when there is a poor mating surface between the valve face and the cylinder head. The poor contact negatively affects the heat transfer between the valve and the cylinder head. A shitty spot in the valve face leads to a hot spot in the valve face. The metal gets eaten away and leads to a worse seal, less heat transfer and the melting continues from there like a snowball effect.

a used TRD catback is $100-150
welding in a muffler may be even cheaper
your sig says you bought a 3" lift kit
and you afforded an expensive Tacoma in the first place

    small V6's don't "rumble"

I have seen people working minimum wage afford exhaust upgrades

Original Post doesn't make a whole lot of sense
