Should I downsize from 33x12.50 to 265/70 or 32x11.50?

Discussion in '1st Gen. Tacomas (1995-2004)' started by HSmith_11, Nov 20, 2016.

?

What size tires???

  1. Stay with 33x12.50s

    20.0%
  2. Go back to 265/70s

    20.0%
  3. Buy 32x11.50s

    60.0%

I'm switching back to my stock 16" wheel.

If you're afraid of it looking like one of those monster trucks (real ones like Gravedigger, not the wannabes you see rolling on the street) with those tiny tires they use to transport them, don't be. It'll look fine.

The great thing about the mods you've done so far is that you can go back to near stock without any fuss. Put the old tires back on and see what it looks like.

I have a nearly identical setup on my 04 DC as TacoDell, and it looks great. I have my front 5100's set on the middle clip, but will put them up to 2.5" when I get a few minutes to myself (not likely over the holidays, lol)

If you don't like the look of the 265/70's with 2.5" of lift, I suggest the grey wire mod and engage that "burnout button" (locker in 2wd) and use them tires up and get some 265/75 BFG's.

Go to 265/75/16's. They are a 31.5" tire. Just enough bigger to look good and not steal power. Not only that but they cost less than either 33's or 265/70/16's They still look good with a lift.

^^ This is what I plan on doing, currently have the stock 265/70r16's but want a slight upgrade in size without a substantial mileage hit or having to do trimming

I found this older one. The springs are tired and have sagged a bit more, so like I said, I'm planning to put the 5100's on the highest setting for ~2.5".

Does anyone have pictures of a 2.5/3" lift with 31s or 265/70s or 265/75s?

Here's a couple pics from when I had 31x10.5-15's on my truck. At the time I had a 1/2" block in the back and my Icons adjusted to about 2" or so in the front. I later went to 33x12.5 and replaced the block with an Icon AAL (1.5") and bumped the CO's up a few more turns to get about 2.5" in the front.

When I had the 31's, I was all motor 2.7 with 3.90 gears and it was ok in town but lost decent speed climbing hills here where I live. Further up in elevation I went, the worse it was. When I first got the truck it had 285's (33's) with the 3.90 gears and it was ok in town still but on the hwy it was pretty rough. I got rid of those pretty quick

I just edited my post a bit. I remembered that it had BFG KO's in a 285 when I first bought it. This is what I looked like then. Had a nasty spacer lift
