    well sure, and a .50 cal is a pea shooter compared to a howitzer.

    Ask for a "mid size" at any ford dealer, they're not going to point to you a 450.

    30 years ago a 1st gen Tacoma would have been considered "mid-sized". Now the new Tacomas are basically the same size as the older Tundras.

    [QUOTE="Abeyancer, post: 23543550,
    I can assure he he definitely didn't go with a reputable rebuild shop, there's a layer of dirt on the grey paint so I'm thinking it was on someone's local warehouse rack for awhile[/QUOTE]

    So what did you decide to do?
    Atleast I learned something from the predicament your in. I checked out the Marlin Crawler Web site. The trans for the 2.7 tacome is $1098 + a $400 core charge and $70 shipping charge.
    If my trans ever starts acting up I think I'd order 1 from them. They seem to have a good reputation. So for $1600 I'd get a rebuilt trans from a reputable shop (id probrably keep my old trans because I hoard stuff like that. The only issue is that they have a 12 week turn around time.when you order 1. This would lead me to believe the toyota trans are reliable units if they dont keep them in stock.
    My trucks at 240k so hopefully I got many years left before I have to think about it.
    How many miles did your truck have when the problem showed up?
    Let us know how things work out for you

    200 mile update.

    I have decided to bite the bullet and not raise a fuss. As far as I can tell everything is in good working order, crawling under the truck after my roadtrip and nothing is leaking .. I have a noticeable 'clunk' when releasing the clutch in 4th but it doesn't happen all the time and I think it's more of an axle wrap situation cause my rear springs are clapped out and nothing to do with the reman trans that got installed. Plus being able to go on the highway is nice so ultimately I can't complain even though it still eats at me at night not knowing what was wrong with 5th in the original lol
